Excerpt: Glad I took the time to watch this film, as it was everything a Hollywood comic movie isnt....fun, laughs at itself, massivley caricatured characers. In some ways it reminded me of Lemony Snicket, anothe film I enjoyed but panned at the box office. Both were due for a second film but, sadly, looks like Adele Blanc-Sec will be another which doesnt make it to a follow up. Some of the special effects are ropey, and the middle sags, but its great fun.
Excerpt: This was a painful movie to sit through, and we did so only because it was already purchased and because like any disaster you simply want to know how it ended. I was not impressed with the performances, and the level of barrenness that was no doubt intentional (it simply had to be intentional--dear God, please let it have been intentional) was simply not enough to make the film engaging. Jumps from one scene to the next made little sense, and the plot holes were gaping.
Conclusion: A delightful film which I picked up on Blu-Ray basically because it was cheap, I hadn't seen it and the director had previously been at the helm with 'The Fifth Element' and 'Leon' (both English language take note...) both favourites of mine.
Conclusion: My best advice would be not to go into this expecting a plot or events that would even remotely be grounded in reality.............but if you just let yourself go into the craziness it's a very fun and engaging piece of silliness well directed and led by a very good performance by Louise Bourgoin as the plucky herione at the centre of the action!
