Tangled

BluRay Authority

  • Excerpt: Fifty? Wow. Really? Disney animation has put out fifty full-length films since they first started with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” back in 1937. And when you think about what it takes to make a movie, let alone an animated movie, that’s pretty impressive. Granted, most of the traditional 2D animation has gone the way of the dodo and with their latest effort, “Tangled”, it’s no exception.

  • Excerpt: I was talking to a friend recently who thought Disney has lost their touch over recent years. I disagreed, and Tangled is a movie that I submit as evidence. This Rapunzel retelling is interesting. A magical flower heals the pregnant queen, and she passes it to her daughter. The daughter's hair has the power to heal. An old nasty lady knew about the flower, and finds out about the hair. She wants to stay young forever, and does not care about anyone else.

Tangled (Blu-ray)

  • Summary: If Tangled suffers at all, it suffers from a rather unfortunate title. When I first heard about the effort, I was not thinking about Rapunzel at all. The original working title was Rapunzel Unbraided . I’m not sure why the studio didn’t stick to the normal straightforward title of Rapunzel . Once you get past the name, it really is an endearing film that lives up to the Disney legacy. The film is charming and moves along at a good pace.

  • Conclusion: I admit it, I was enamored with 'Tangled.' On my first viewing, after Rapunzel's first song, I was afraid I was about to sit through a Disney cash grab full of pop songs better suited to 'Hannah Montana'. Boy, was I glad when that fear was utterly squashed. To go along with this brilliant little film, Disney has provided flawless video and audio presentations. There are a few special features here that may please fans. All in all, 'Tangled' comes highly recommended.

Tangled Review

  • Excerpt: We have a thief, a princess, a witch, and the fairy tale backdrop. Tangled falls right in line with the Disney tradition, sure, but it’s clever. This is a blending of old school and new school, producing stunningly beautiful works of art in the background along with brilliant song writing, while mixing in the new age timing and humor modern comedies rarely achieve.
