Excerpt: Ben Weathley keeps surprising and interesting me. I loved his two previous efforts, Down Terrace and Kil List, and so did I love Sightseers, a pitch black comedy that exhudes the same off-kilter qualities as the aforementioned pics. As always, dialogue, acting and mise en scene feel very naturalistic yet one suspects everything was carefully thought-out.
Excerpt: This is how we Brits do comedy....deliciously dark with a double d. I didn't like Kill List but this is just pure genius. Destined to be an absolute classic. PQ is first rate and the audio is superb with an excellent soundtrack. One of the best releases in 2013 so far.
Summary: This film just takes one absurd turn to the next. An unlikely couple pack up
their bags and leave town to see some of the sights around their little town in
a cramped, awkward, outdated caravan. When there is an accidental murder, things
just go from wierd to wierder as things can only end in one way. Much worth the watch, with only one question left on the lips after it ends.
Conclusion: When you see a spectacular movie, you almost always end up let down,as they do not live up to your expectations. I had no high expectations with this and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Problem is,now that i have told you this, you will now have higher expectations...bah. Really do recommend it though,it is a great dark comedy.
Conclusion: AFter seeing the trailer a while ago,i was really looking forward to this. How disappointing. The film is dull, with a couple of chuckle moments (near the begining). What then happens,is the showing of 2 unlikable characters, who are just plain weird, setting off on a very dull adventure. As tghe film wentt on, i disliked them more and more. The writing is ok, but i couldnt find any empathy or sympathy for the 2 main characters, and had to watch this film in a few...
Summary: It was a disturbing yet funny film. If your into dark comedies, this ones for you. I was really worried about Poppy/Banjo for most of the movie which made it hard to enjoy times. The ending was perfect and the film as a whole was well directed and visually stunning.
Summary: If Mike Leigh made a movie about sociopaths it might look something like director Ben Wheatley's 'Sightseers.' Just imagine Leigh's bleak British dramas 'Life is Sweet' or 'Secrets & Lies' - with the odd brutal random killing thrown in... Lead actors Alice Lowe (who plays "angry faced" Tina), and Steve Oram (who plays "ginger bearded" Chris), also wrote the screenplay and the pair nail the oddball lovers as they tour Britain on a caravan holiday, taking in such...
Summary: Sightseers Crazy fringe film festival sorta flick if ever I saw one. Right up there with 'Bad Taste', 'Bad Boy Bubby', 'Bad Santa', 'Superbad' and 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe' :-) I loved it. Truely a strange and odd movie and following the lives of these two nearly paired couple in their all too real dealings (killings) with others they encounter.Set in the UK but could've easily been a NZ writern and set film.
Summary: Did not like the film at all, wish I hadn't seen it. Found all the characters very unlikeable. It was far too graphically violent for me and looked away for the most part. I think that the idea of a film about retribution was good, and yet they lost me by having the main characters violently killing people that had disgruntled them in some way, this was many steps too far for me. I didn't find it funny at all.
