Conclusion: 'Shoah' is mandatory viewing by all. This very important film is the ultimate account of what happened during the holocaust. This film has won many awards over the years and deservedly so. There is nothing else like it. Criterion's video and audio presentations are flawless, which come complete with amazing extras. While it's a stiff price-tag, this documentary might be one of the best movies of all time. This is a must-own and receives my highest recommendation.
Conclusion: The material gathered by director Claude Lanzmann in his 566-minute film Shoah is undoubtedly of tremendous importance, but this isn't a film that is easy to recommend. It is very difficult to watch - there is too much real pain in it, too much sorrow. I personally think that there are also questions in the film that should have never been asked out of respect for those who agreed to be part of it.
