  • Summary: Howard Hawks' landmark gangster picture is an orgy of glamourous, pre-Hays code violence. It inevitably ditched the moral complexity of earlier crime films like 1927's Underworld due to tightening pressures from censors, but still displayed a far more decadent streak than any of it's Production...

  • Summary: Brilliant! One of the best mob movies ever. Almost as good as the Godfathers and GoodFellas, in my opinion. Al Pacino gives a memorable and highly underrated performance as Tony Montana. Really good performances by Michelle Pfeiffer and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio too. A classic.

  • Excerpt: The steelbook has a really classy design. The AQ is superb, and the PQ is very solid. My only complaint is that right when tony is about to kill frank, as frank crawls towards tony, it freezes for like 2 or 3 seconds, then skips from the frozen frame, to the correct frame that appears the 2 to 3...

Scarface (1983)

  • Excerpt: One of the greatest gangster movies ever made! Brian De Palma's brutal but epic masterpiece. This is the type of film that keeps Hollywood alive because of its timelessness. Al Pacino is in top form as a Cuban refugee in this dark, socially-challenging take on the old "rags-to-riches" stories that...

  • Summary: Filled to the brim with bloody violence and coarse language. This gangster favorite is entertaining pulp at best. Pacino's purposefully over-the-top performance and De Palma's excellent directing combine to make a collection of memorably visceral scenes.

Scarface BD review

  • Excerpt: When I saw "Scarface" on VHS in 1984 I was impacted by the violence of it. It was the first movie I had seen that actually made you feel the adrenaline and fear of that world. Another perception was the movie also had some oddly cheesy moments, which made for a pretty strange mix with the hardcore...

  • Excerpt: A well directed film about excess, power and loyalty. Al Pacino is Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee who rose from the tanks. Definitely one of the most popular cult gangster film due to the impact it had for musical artists, video games, books and television spoofs.
