Rise of the Guardians

ComingSoon
17 October 2013
  • Excerpt: If you like superhero movies and holiday legends, then you'll find "Rise of the Guardians" to be a pleasant surprise. A solid script, excellent cast, and impressive 3D animation make this a movie that both adults and kids will enjoy. It is arguably the best animated movie of 2012.

Rise Of The Guardians

Sound & Vision Magazine
8 October 2013
  • Excerpt: Based on a children’s book series Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce, Rise of the Guardians would be better named Jack Frost, for despite the presence of a tattooed, Russian-accented Santa Claus (known as North here); a ready-for-action, Wolverine Easter Bunny; a silent, golden Sandman; and a cutesy Tooth Fairy (the other members of the Guardians), this is really Jack’s story.

Rise of the Guardians

  • Conclusion: 'Rise of the Guardians' was the biggest surprise of 2012 for me. It was an unexpected, heartfelt movie that honed in on what it means to be a child, and what it's like to believe in something you can't see. It harnesses the joy of childhood and packs an unforeseen emotional wallop. As a demo disc through and through 'Rise of the Guardians' is highly recommended.

Rise of the Guardians 3D Review

DoBlu
11 March 2013
  • Excerpt: Santa is Russian. There is nothing wrong with being Russian, but seeing the jolly old guy designed in the scheme of a circus sideshow strongman with a Russian accent? It’s weird. Oh, and the Easter Bunny? He’s Wolverine in that the voice work is Hugh Jackman and he has a short temper. That does not seem to be the right fit either. But, credit where credit is due, Rise of the Guardians is trying something different.

Rise of the Guardians Blu-ray Review

10 March 2013
  • Summary: ...to bring wonder, hope, and dreams. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and Jack Frost walk into a bar and, well, nothing . Nothing happens. It's not because the patrons are too drunk to notice, it's that they don't believe in the existence of this quintet of heroes, and disbelief leaves them rendered invisible.

  • Conclusion: You can come up with many theories for why Rise of the Guardians became the rare animated film from DreamWorks or really any studio these days to flop at the box office. You can blame the title evoking that boring owl movie, you can blame the always staunch holiday season competition, you can blame the marketing campaign or the unusual depictions of legendary figures.

Review: Rise of the Guardians the movie stands above traditional mushy Holiday fare

GameZone
24 November 2012
  • Excerpt: You ever get tired of all those cruddy holiday movies?  I know I sure do.  I don't mean the classics like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or A Christmas Story.  No, I mean the Lifetime movies about the "magic of Christmas" or the ones about the bratty kids who learn their lesson – the movies that really have nothing new to say about the holidays, merely existing to make someone feel warm and fuzzy, even for just a few seconds.

Rise of the Guardians

Cinema Blend
21 November 2012
  • Excerpt: Movies are drowning in mythology these days, to the point that half of the most popular franchises require reading the books or comic books, or at least asking your nerdiest friend who the hell that purple alien in the end credits is supposed to be. Children's films have been largely exempt from this exhausting trend, but now we have Rise of the Guardians , which takes fairly simple characters who exist in the public domain-- Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and others--...
