Puss In Boots (Blu-ray)

  • Summary: A pretty complete package. If you like the film, then by all means pick this up. But the film itself is a case of the extremely well-crafted execution of an indifferent script.

Puss in Boots

DVD Talk
27 October 2011
  • Excerpt: It's pretty fair to say that we all knew that the fourth Shrek film, occasional "Final Chapter" subtitle or not, was not going to mark the end of a franchise that gave DreamWorks animation the opportunity to just print money every couple of years; how in blazes were they going to walk away from that? Never mind that the story had long run out of steam--indeed, there wasn't enough juice for one sequel, let alone three.

Puss In Boots

AV Club
27 October 2011
  • Excerpt: Say this for Puss In Boots , DreamWorks’ latest attempt to wring more money from the Shrek franchise: It does 3-D right. It feels like the camera is always in motion, zooming up the strings of a guitar, whizzing across a desert plain, or ducking behind a character’s head to adopt a dramatic visual perspective. The CGI film has a great sense of depth and detail in its spaces, and it explores its world with bold dynamism.

Puss In Boots

  • Conclusion: Like most kittens, it's not always perfectly behaved, but at least this new Puss adventure doesn't have you reaching for the cinematic spray bottle. And thank goodness the spin-off does nothing to neuter the charismatic cat's appeal.

Flicks
7 March 2012
  • Summary: A Shrek spin-off film was inevitable but, after the last couple of lacklustre outings, its potential quality was up for debate. Luckily, Puss in Boots is more of the flick many envisioned after seeing Shrek 2 than the unfunny mess of Shrek the Third . More As an origin story, the film does the bare minimum of what’s expected (even acknowledging the dullness of the tired ‘flashback sequence’).

Expert Review

FILMDUDE
8 December 2011
  • Excerpt: The cat's out of the bag with "Puss in Boots", the 'diablo gato' showing enough charm to headline his own film. He's cheeky, cute, and a wanted outlaw, as we discover in a delightful flashback of his back story. Curiosity is lost when the fairy-tale plot begins, introducing characters who aren't as much fun as our hero. The animation is great, just look at the fur, but could have looked better and brighter if they shied away from the 3D format.
