Prometheus

  • Excerpt: Cool connections to Ridley Scott's "Alien," a great performance by Michael Fassbender, and impressive production design make "Prometheus" well worth checking out in theaters, but a familiar plot and stupid choices by the characters keep it from being the sci-fi classic it could have been.

Prometheus

High-Def Digest

  • Conclusion: Here it is, folks – my new favorite demo disc. Watching the film itself is a journey that I wish I could take again for the first time. Upon reflection and analysis, it only gets better with each viewing. Sure, there are those who loathe 'Prometheus' – and I've carried on extensive debate-like conversations defending the arguments – but I stand by my opinion that this is one of the very best contemporary science fiction films, a more-than-worthy chapter in the...

  • Excerpt: The origin of human life has tortured scientists, religious figures, and normal people since the dawn of time. While theories abound, both scientific and faith based, no solid proof has been uncovered as to the truth. In 2089, there seems to be potential to unlock the mystery of man’s origins, but what will that truth be? A team of anthropologists exploring a cave find an ancient cave painting, one similar to others found around the world.

Prometheus Review

  • Excerpt: No one considered the Alien series was part of our origin species. It’s doubtful even its creators did back in 1979. They wanted to make a movie about a creature ransacking a crew in tight corridors, complete with a ferocious female heroine. Unbeknownst to us, they were making us human. It’s important to toss aside elements of Alien . If anything, they almost detract from what Prometheus is capable of producing.

Prometheus (Blu-ray)

  • Summary: This is the story of two films, in the end. There is the Alien prequel, which promises to answer 30-year-old questions. For those of us old enough, we’ve waited a long time to see this. But there are many in the audience who know alien only from home video, and long after the countless sequels and rip-off versions have become part of the popular culture. Few of us in 1979 related to Alien’s inspiration from It, The Terror From Beyond Space .

Prometheus (Blu-ray Review)

whysoblu.com
13 October 2012
  • Conclusion: In conclusion, I urge you to enjoy Prometheus for what it is, not the most outstanding piece of science fiction ever written, but rather a much-needed and deserved trip down memory lane filled with beautiful bombshells (Rapace and Theron), a fully clothed Fassbender (thank the Gods) and a surplus of beautiful/exotic landscapes and gorgeous cinematography that will take your breath away like a plastic bag over your head, not to mention the reminiscent, but distant alien...

  • Excerpt: Prometheus is director Ridley Scott's return to science fiction, and co-writer Damon Lindelof's return to the kind of big, heady themes he explored for six seasons of his landmark TV show Lost . It's a natural pairing, and one that imbues Prometheus with Scott's stunning visuals and Lindelof's ideas that are even more interesting to discuss after the credits roll-- the innate desire to surpass our parents, say, or the inability to find answers to life's most nagging and...

  • Excerpt: When George Lucas started planning the scenes in Jabba The Hutt’s palace in Return Of The Jedi , he saw an opportunity to improve on his own work. He had never been happy with the low-tech cantina scene in Star Wars , with its rubber-suit aliens and fuzzy wolfman. Equipped with a bigger budget and better technology—the rewards of success—he set out to turn Jabba’s surroundings into the riot of chaotic, colorful, creepy alien life he’d envisioned the first time around.
