Pompeii

Sound & Vision Magazine
10 October 2014
  • Excerpt: But the scenario soon transitions from a Gladiator knockoff to a natural-disaster flick, with a seemingly doomed romance between our gladiator and a young lady of privilege tossed into the mix for human interest (and an homage to Titanic, perhaps?).

  • Conclusion: Pompeii is a very bad movie that you nonetheless should have little difficulty enduring and maybe even enjoying in some guilty fashion. • Conclusion: When it's all said and done, Paul W.S. Anderson's 'Pompeii' is just another sword-and-sandal epic that only imagines classical empires by their gladiator sports and bloody battles to the death inside grand arenas.

Pompeii (Blu-ray Review)

whysoblu.com
20 May 2014

  • Conclusion: I wanted to like Paul W.S. Anderson's Pompeii , but the director insists on boring the audience with a Gladiator -knockoff story and dull melodrama before finally letting his angry volcano loose.

  • Conclusion: Chances are most savvy moviegoers will know exactly what to expect when laying down money to see Pompeii . The film offers an interesting mixture of genres that don't here mesh very well, largely because of the empty script and emphasis on the superficial.
