Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

DVD Talk
30 December 2013
  • Conclusion: If I had kids I would definitely let them watch Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters . The second film adaptation of Rick Riordan's YA adventures, Sea of Monsters is both breezily entertaining and a fun way to introduce young viewers to Greek mythology. Not as accomplished as Harry Potter but much better than most adolescent adventures, Sea of Monsters should play well with its target audience and their parents. . What Do You Think?

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

  • Excerpt: A few years ago I remember a little movie called Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief hitting theaters. I hadn’t really heard of the Percy Jackson books or maybe I’d heard enough to think they were kind of a rip off of the Harry Potter series.  Nevertheless, the movie sat on my shelf for a while, but one evening I decided to give it a try.  Yes, I realize that the target audience for the film is about 20 years younger than me, but darn it if I didn’t like it!

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Blu-ray Review

  • Conclusion: Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters has a lot to recommend it, especially for parents who want to introduce their kids to Greek mythology courtesy of some method other than Thomas Bulfinch. That said, there's no denying that this franchise is certainly no Harry Potter , which may be its single greatest obstacle in finding a more appreciative audience.

  • Excerpt: Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters has one useful quality: It serves as a damning reminder that, in an age in which we're desensitized to limitless visual fantasy, and see the impossible made possible on movie screens every week, no amount of adequate CG showmanship can stand in for the basic tenets of good filmmaking.

Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters

Cinema Blend

  • Excerpt: Right around the time Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) and his adventure-seeking crew hitchhiked on the scaly back of a rainbow-colored dragon and rode to the center of the Sea of Monsters (known to humans as the Bermuda Triangle), I officially stopped critiquing director Thor Freudenthal’s wondrous fantasy excursion and just plugged in for the head-shakingly outlandish but consistently entertaining ride.
