Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Blu-ray Review

DoBlu
5 February 2014
  • Excerpt: As an energetic popcorn muncher, Percy Jackson exudes a mixture of stylized adventuring, blending into the pantheon of mythologies. Slipping into the popularized frame of teenage magic dueling and personal responsibility, Jackson (Logan Lerman) hoists up a glistening sword, stabbing stuff which may interfere with his quest to snatch the life giving Golden Fleece. This all used to be a namesake of Ray Harryhausen and Co.

  • Conclusion: Though it aims to be a Harry Potter successor, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters settles for light entertainment. It offers the diversion of an average 21st century family-friendly adventure, but never engages or excites to the extent intended. Thus, it makes for a decent viewing for those of the right age or mindset, but not something to frequently revisit, think about, or hope continues into another episode.

  • Excerpt: With a complete change in creative personnel, and adjusted expectations, "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" is a noticeable improvement over the first "Percy Jackson" adventure, but it's still awkward and unsure of itself like the teenagers it purports to be about. And still doomed to continue living in Harry Potter's shadow.

Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters

AV Club
7 August 2013
  • Excerpt: For a movie whose subtitle is Sea Of Monsters , the new Percy Jackson film sure skimps on the wild things. Sure, there are a few: a ramping mechanical bull that looks both cool and unbelievably phony, a snarling feline beastie with a scorpion stinger, and a giant leviathan with teeth the size of shark fins and a belly teeming with unlucky sailors. (A sight to see, that one.
