Excerpt: Normally I like Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson in most everything thing they've done, but this was the worst piece of trash I've seen in a long time. Glad it was only a rental. Couldn't finish it, had to quit after 25 minutes. Really, what is going on in the last couple of years? It seems like studios are just following a formula: pick a couple of big name actors, add some explosions and some expensive CGI and voila! Instant ca$h!
Summary: Pain and Gain - Zavvi Exclusive Limited Edition Steelbook (Ltd to 1000) is a terribly offensive and grotesque film in my opinion. The film revolves around Daniel Lugo (Wahlberg), a hopeless bodybuilder-cum-psychotic murderer and kidnapper who, with two just as ridiculously stupid bodybuilders (Johnson and Mackie), kidnap and torture a rich client in the hope of him giving him all he owns.
Summary: Now I have to be honest, Michael Bay is not my favourite director but I went into this feature with an open mind. I should of gone in with my eyes closed. I get that it's a comedy of errors and I get the darker connotations of the story and I also get the perplexities of playing the characters in a dark comedy based on a true story, and I can live with all that. But there was something missing, something I still cannot put my finger on.
