Excerpt: Other films have covered ground similar to his and whilst it may have got there first, it's difficult to watch this without finding the themes and story very familiar. The cinematography is also incredibly dark at times, making it difficult to see what is going on. Perhaps that was the intent, but it can be frustrating occasionally. However, it's still entertaining to watch the film develop and Connery is always worth watching.
Excerpt: I am 38, huge fun of sci fi, action and special effects. Due to the reviews I bougth the movie. It is a very good movie, solid acting and special effects (for the time), but I was all the movie waiting for a little bit of action, and I was really dissapointed. It is a SLOW movie, like Lost in Space.... It is just me?
Summary: Love this movie and have been looking to purchase it for a while. Sean Connery is excellent in this Sci-Fi space flik, it has mystery, action, a good storyline and great acting. One of my favorite movies from the early 80's.
Summary: Sean Connery gave a great presence to the film. The blu ray version was 100% better to view over the standard dvd that most of the time was hard to see the scenes being so dark and out of focus.
Pros: Engaging Characters, Entertaining, Great Cinematography
Excerpt: Maybe it was because I was watching this projected four feet tall and about nine-and-a-half feet wide instead of on a TV set, and maybe it was because I watched it immediately after the crisp, clear Blu-ray of HIGH NOON, but the overall PQ of this Warners Blu-ray may be better than the DVD but still was a big letdown, especially after the Blu-ray.com review.
Summary: One of the most under-appreciated films of the last 30 years, 'Outland' was called by my boilerplate headline when it first opened. Suspenseful in its own right you'll feel the tension ad you're entwined in the great story of a Marshal dedicated to setting the record straght and finding out who is behind the mysterious deaths of the miners on Io. And, he's also a dedicated family man. A buried treasure.
Pros: Entertaining, Great Cinematography, High Production Value, Informative
Excerpt: finally managed to get hold of a copy of this last week, have been looking forward to this release for a while. Ive seen the film maybe once or twice in the early 90s and didnt have any real memory of the film. After watching this last night i was more than impressed with the visual style of the movie, this is definatly the films strongest aspect, the general atmosphere, lighting and set designs are just fantastic (could almost be set in the 'ALIEN' universe).
Excerpt: I first saw this movie on cable TV back in the early 90s, pan & scan, commercials and all and it still blew me away. I loved the story (yes, I realize it's recycled High Noon), the sets, the atmosphere and of course, Sean Connery. In 1998, it was the very first DVD I purchased and I salivated at the thought of watching one of my favourite films on the new digital disc. My jaw hit the floor when the opening crawl came up, but not for the right reasons.
