The plot involves Satsuke, a girl on the cusp of womanhood, moving into the country with her father and younger sister Mei, where she discovers a child's realm of wonder and make-believe running in parallel to the adults' mundane everyday existence.

‘My Neighbor Totoro’ Blu-ray Review

Walts Ghost, blu-ray.com
3 June 2013
  • Excerpt: There are few family films nearly as perfect as Hayao Miyazaki’s animated film, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’. It’s a childhood fantasy that deals with growing up, family, and friendship, and is honestly a very whimsical experience. The film seems to have struck a chord with a sect of American audiences since it debuted on DVD here, with the scene of Satsuki and the large Totoro standing outside together in the rain becoming something of a pop culture moment.

A wonderful beautiful happy Movie comes to blu ray :3

  • Excerpt: It's kind of hard to articulate this movie without using this word: Adorable :3 THe only problem with this movie is the pacing. It's very slow. Bambi has a slow plot too but at least it's moving, this movie stops dead for most of the middle part. Yet like Bambi that is one minor flaw, the movie is nonetheless a wonderful beautiful happy movie. This movie is not only one of Miyazaki's more subtle pictures but also one of it's more somber pictures as well.

ONE OF THE GREATEST FILMS EVER MADE...

  • Excerpt: If a pure child had God's wisdom for painting, then I would think it would look something like a Miyazaki film. As if recalling precious moments from childhood and bringing them to life via a palette of plastic sheets rendered now digitally to fixated media applications (a process which is not long-lasting in cimena but which will likely not change), Miyazaki is something of a painter for the imagination.

The plot revolves around professor Tatsuo Kusukabe and his two daughters, Satsuki and Mei. They transfer into a new house, visit their sick mother, and the girls meet magical creatures that have powers and loves nature. The humor with Totoro (leaf, happiness using an umbrella, etc.

  • Summary: This movie is one that gives me butterflies every time I rewatch it. I can remember the feelings I had as a child when I watch this movie now. No movie is more magical than this adventurous masterpiece. All the spirits are just amazing and have you wishing they were real. The Dust Bunnies, the Totoros, and the Cat Bus are staples of my childhood and have become my child's favorites. This movie has and will stand the test of time and will be hard to match.
