Prequel that has some refreshing elements

sreekirch, FilmCrave

  • Excerpt: It is party time! A prequel now! Monsters University has come onboard by Pixar and Scanlon. Pixar knows Scanlon as their story artist since Cars and Toy Story 3. Now he has a big job. He has to direct a prequel of Monsters Inc. For those who have watched Monsters Inc, there are no big surprises, as we know that both Mike and Sullivan are the best friends. But now they are in the university, to scare people. Hey is this necessary? I am doubting too much on this question.

  • Summary: 'Monsters University' is a fair prequel to 'Monsters Inc'. The story is predictable and there is a severe lack in humor. The personalities and creative designs of the new characters offsets some of that. The last third of the film does offer a couple slight turns in plot. It's another decent effort from Pixar that will please kids more than adults.

Monsters University review

  • Excerpt: The film evolves around Mike and Sulley's adventure in Monsters University. It starts of slow then it becomes interesting especially during the plot twist where you would think everything is alright with Mike's ability to scare. The background characters were funny, soundtrack was apt and screenplay though more serious than Monsters Inc., was still entertaining. It's great to see more depth between the friendship of our protagonists and its enticing how they all started.

Worthy Prequel (From someone who enjoyed Brave)

JasperQ, blu-ray.com

  • Excerpt: Just to contrast the other review, I really enjoyed this movie. It was quite comical and more attractive to a younger-adult audience. I have already watched this more than I have Monster's Inc. So, there is re-playability here. The picture and 3D were very impressive. I am all about immersion into the film. Now... if Disney could be just a little more lax on 3D pricing, my day would be made.

An unnecessary story to be told

  • Excerpt: In comparison to Monster's Inc. this one is nothing. 3D to me is just a depth. Dont know why movie industry only relies on depth. Is there any law in US that not to make 3D popup flicks??? I would not advise to buy it as you probably will not watch it again.

  • Excerpt: While this isn't one of the best Pixar movies, this is definitely a great movie. The video and audio quality are both perfect. I love looking at the video, as the colors are vibrant, and both the animation and detail are amazing. The Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio is phenomenal as well. I also like the fact that a 2.0 audio is included in English. The extras were a fun watch, especially the "Sky Flythroughs" extra.

An Origin Story Worthy of the Pixar Name

Chris Kavan, FilmCrave
17 October 2013
  • Excerpt: I admit that I have always admired Pixar because of their ability to create quality original films. Wall E, The Incredibles and Up are not just among my favorite animated films - but they are just some of the best films around. Recently there has been a rash of sequels (both released and upcoming) and I also admit it was a bit worrying. I thought the Toy Story movies continued to get better and better, but I didn't think many other films needed any more help.
