Modern Family: The Complete Fourth Season (2012-2013)
10 December 2014
Conclusion: I'm more or less in the same generation as Phil and Claire (maybe a tad older), with two teenage kids of my own, and I continue to find Modern Family a genuine oasis in what can still be the "barren wasteland" of network television. This is in fact one of the rare "appointment television" moments my entire family will sit together and watch, which is a testament to just how accessible and relatable the various characters in this series are.
Modern Family: The Complete Fourth Season (Blu-ray Review)
3 October 2013
Conclusion: “Modern Family” is one of the best shows on television and this Blu-ray is a nice package for fans. The video and audio quality are very good and the extras are decent too. We finally get some commentaries as well but none yet from any of the cast. If you enjoy the show then you should definitely buy this set!
Modern Family: The Complete Fourth Season (Blu-ray)

Summary: If you like the show, there’s reason to be even happier. The talk is that a year from now will see a spinoff of the Riggle character. He was only in a few episodes and almost got Claire to work for him. That didn’t work out, but apparently the character did. Inside chatter tells me he’ll be getting his own show next year. They’ll be happening in the same universe, and I expect we’ll see the rivalry with Phil spill over into both shows.
Excerpt: When in doubt, introduce a baby. Except, Modern Family had no such doubts, reigning as a king of network comedy as it brought in pregnant Gloria (Sofia Vergara) to butter up plot lines for this fourth season. Instead of desperation, writers cast the pregnancy angle as the centerpiece, a twisting, winding narrative which can draw in each sector of the Pritchett clan.
Conclusion: Season four might be slightly off its game as Claire's uptight bitchiness takes over from time to time and drags otherwise funny episodes down a notch or two, but there's still a ton to love about this show. It's clever, witty, and full of outlandishly fun characters. Fox has put out another solid Blu-ray release for this season. Recommended for just about anyone who enjoys laughing.
Conclusion: With four wins in a row, like the New York Islanders of the early ‘80s, Modern Family is now officially a dynasty, and though the show may at times feel somewhat formulaic, you can't argue with the results, as the show manages to be hugely funny (managing at least one belly laugh per episode,) yet genuinely heartfelt, thanks to some of the best comedic writing on TV.
