Miss Potter

ComingSoon
18 November 2013
  • Excerpt: Turn of the century England was not a time or place particularly suited for a woman of any social standing to try and make their own way in life, so it was more than out of the ordinary for Beatrix Potter (Renée Zellweger) not only to try and publish her own children's stories, but to be wildly successful at it, eventually becoming one of the most popular children's authors of all time.

  • Excerpt: However she may appear as an awards show presenter, there's no denying Renee Zellweger has been very intelligent in choosing roles. Nominated at the Oscars twice for Best Actress and winning a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, she certainly has talent (and, it seems, a penchant for accents). It is with these things she brings a naive charm to 'Miss Potter, the story of Beatrix Potter's relationship with her publisher, Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor).

  • Excerpt: Unlike the abominable movie Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus , which also revolves around an acclaimed and misunderstood artist, Miss Potter provides a glimpse of an eccentric woman with a perfect balance of whimsy and heart-tugging. Where the former had pretension and an air of holier-than-thou freaky smugness, the latter celebrates the world of creativity and the fun that comes with being an imaginative outcast.

  • Excerpt: Fans of the fictionalized J.M. Barrie biopic Finding Neverland are bound to experience déjà vu watching the oppressively twee new biopic Miss Potter, a film that hews so closely to the Neverland template that it must have taken a phenomenal act of will not to just name it Finding Neverland 2: The Beatrix Pottering. Let's see: childlike protagonists unhealthily immersed in fantasy worlds of their own devising? Check.

  • Conclusion: Pitched awkwardly — neither for children nor cool young adults — it’s very sweet, very nice and just the thing for a girlie matinée with mum and nan.

Miss Potter (2006)

10 July 2014

Miss Potter

Film

  • Summary: Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) blev världens mest berömda barnboksförfattare och illustratör.
