moviemet.com
26 May 2012
  • Summary: “Melancholia” is not a “disaster” film per se but rather a character study of two sisters, whose responses are governed by a planetary event.

  • Conclusion: Though I had issues with it, 'Melancholia' excels in a number of areas and is perfect for those who want a film that is original and different. Even with the limited Special Features, fans of the film should be very happy with the A/V qualities, and it's highly recommended for those who appreciate...

Melancholia

BluRay Authority

  • Excerpt: Is it me or are there a growing number of films that involve another planet in them? Director Terrance Malick also gave us a very surreal film in his Best Picture nominated The Tree of Life .

  • Summary: Some more extras would have been very welcome given the depth of the film but this is otherwise an excellent release from Magnolia. Melancholia

The Digital Fix
28 September 2011
  • Excerpt: For most of his filmmaking career, Lars von Trier has run the risk of either falling flat on his ass or disappearing up it. His earliest films in the Europe Trilogy , fawningly derivative of Tarkovsky and Bergman, demonstrated more style than substance, but from Breaking the Waves and The Idiots...

Review: ‘Melancholia’

Variety
18 May 2011
  • Summary: It's the end of the world but also the start of something new for Lars von Trier, whose mind-blowing "Melancholia" offers perhaps the gentlest depiction of annihilation one could imagine from any director, much less the Danish provocateur.
