  • Summary: I wasn't expecting much from this movie, and I got what I expected. The film is told from the killer's perspective, as in, the camera is in the first-person perspective. Elijah Wood did an alright job with playing the mentally unstable Frank, but those two aspects were the only good things about the movie. It didn't have a single developed character, which made the kills pretty dull, and I wasn't expecting much from this movie, and I got what I expected.

  • Summary: Maniac is not shy when it comes to violence and sex but does however contain a simple story line made into a complex situation that at times, is difficult to follow.

Do we need another serial killer movie? Yes!

  • Excerpt: I thought this was a pretty unique movie in terms of its POV format, violent nature, and subject matter. The storyline is relatively simple and the acting is unfortunately below par at times (ie. flat line delivery) but it held my interest throughout. It's very weird, creepy, and unsettling. And the special effects are excellent. Both the picture and audio quality are above average. I had no complaints with either.

  • Summary: This movie is amazing, and it can't believe the metascore is only a mere 47/100. It should at least be in the 60s. Anyways, this is a great movie, with beautiful cinematography, an amazing soundtrack, solid acting, great special effects and interesting characters. Check it out on Netflix if you haven't seen it.

  • Summary: this movie was awesome! it was down right dirty and nasty and brutal. Frodo goes around scalping chicks and becoming more and more insane by the second. The film follows basically the same plot as the original although this time it is from a first person perspective. This works out really great and just hearing Elijah's voice is creepy as hell and he truly looks like a maniac when you do this movie was awesome! it was down right dirty and nasty and brutal.

Pretentious Art-house Horror

  • Excerpt: And the Razzie for Worst Actor goes to...Elijah Wood for his performance in "Maniac," one of the worst horror films I saw this year. I don't usually pick on sweet, little Elijah, but he SUCKS as Frank Zito. He isn't convincing at all -- AT ALL -- as a serial killer. I'll use the word "pussy" instead. Sorry. I watch a lot of horror films...and this one is pretty crappy. The script reads like a first draft and the other actors are hacks to the point of hilarity.

Weird, Dark, Violent

  • Excerpt: This movie is hard to rate. It is odd, disturbing, extremely violent and sort of gives you a feeling of discomfort throughout the film. Don't go into this movie comparing it to the original "Maniac" or other horror films. Simply take this as a completely new horror suspense thriller and just enjoy it, or try to. The entire film is as seen through the eyes of Frank (Elijah Wood), who owns a mannequin store which he got from his mother.

  • Summary: This is one of my favorite horror movies I have ever seen (only bested by the original Evil Dead). Wile a remake, it takes on an identity of its own. It is perfect. A true horror movie, no monsters, or demons, or jump scares, it is about a psycho rooted in realism. And oh what a psycho Wood makes. I never knew he had this kind of performance in him.

  • Summary: A rare remake that is as beautiful as it is shocking; Maniac brilliantly combines brutality with beauty and the result is a smart, unnerving and nightmarish work of art. An underrated gem that, though it has its errors, captivates.
