Superlong is more like it.

Taz, FilmCrave

  • Excerpt: The only reason this movie got two stars from me was because it has the character of Superman in it. I love the character of Superman and because of that I was able to make it through the two and a half hours of over stylized crap Zach Snyder filled this movie with. Not that it was all his fault there are a lot of other major issues wit things that happened in this movie. The death toll is incredibly high for a movie staring a character that saves people.

Spectacle and Spectacle Alone

FilmCrave

  • Excerpt: Superman is not Batman. In saying that I don’t mean that I think that Superman isn’t as good as Batman, but that I think Superman should not be treated the same way as Batman. I am not a huge comic book nerd, but from what I can tell Superman hasn’t changed nearly as much over the length of his existence as Batman has. Batman has become a very dark brooding character while Superman is closer to his golden age counter part; he’s more of a role-model type.

Superman, calm down a bit.

FilmCrave

  • Excerpt: Man of Steel is a failed attempt at a 'gritty and dark' take on the Superman story. While it will certainly satisfy anyone looking for endless, relentless, literally non-stop action. It's sad to say that all the visual effects and supposed epic action sequences are nothing but visual chaos, thus it's more headache inducing than awe inspiring.

Average

Lucy-Power, Flicks

  • Summary: Very average movie. Not enough time was spent on Superman's background, and Henry Cavill was hard to like given his lack of facial expressions. Action scenes were good, although that seemed to be all the movie was about. The main villain was funny rather than scary.

Too alien not enough super man

CVAH, Flicks
27 October 2013
  • Summary: I'm a big superman fan and this movie does not depict the sensitivity and nerdy character strength that Christopher Reeve portrayed. I missed the real superman! Anyone who knows their superheroes, knows that the charm is in the subtle hint of difference and not depicting superman as an alien.

Rubbish. Where's the charm?

Red, Flicks
27 October 2013
  • Summary: I'm a big Superman fan and have been eagerly awaiting this movie. I thought it was hugely disappointing. It as if it was directed by Michael Bay - barely nothing in the way of character or charm, huge on wanton destruction, terrible dialogue and plot holes (why doesn't Superman just take his fight elsewhere, instead his personal squabble flattens a city and presumably kills thousands).

Disappointing

tommnz, Flicks

  • Summary: Whereas Batman was reignited in the latest Nolan trilogy I expected the same for Superman and had high hopes, I was genuinely excited. But, turns out it was another lame, cheesy attempt which left me feeling ripped off. So much potential wasted in this lackluster film which was only really an introduction to a few franchise. The action was boring and repetitive, flying into buildings, over and over and over again.. yawn.

Did not like.

DanNz, Flicks
27 October 2013
  • Summary: I defy anyone to call this film entertaining. In trying to make Superman darker and more conflicted, they both broke the character and made a dull, emotionless film. They missed their 'gritty' target and landed on 'boring' instead. It's not all terrible: Michael Shannon was his usual excellent self, and I enjoyed the Krypton parts. The acting is generally good, but the dialogue is terrible, the script laden with forced exposition.

CGI-fest

FletchNZ, Flicks
27 October 2013
  • Summary: This film has nothing on the 1978 Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve. That film still makes me feel like I'm watching Superman and it has a sense of wonder. Man Of Steel never makes me think I'm watching Superman; it's some super powered person yes, but it isn't Superman - the suit isn't much like Superman. The movie turns into a CGI destruction-fest at the end and had me shaking my head near the end and wishing it were over. Not much to recommend it.
