Man of Steel

Sound & Vision Magazine
5 March 2014
  • Excerpt: Here, planet Krypton is home to a dying civilization with a penchant for capes, brought to the brink of extinction by their own folly, and so their greatest mind (and quite the hand-to-hand fighter) Jor-El dispatches his newborn son to Earth. He predicts that young Kal-El will grow to become a god to us Terrans, but he also gifts Kal with a mysterious remnant of his ill-fated people.

Man of Steel (Blu-ray Review)

  • Conclusion: I have to admit.  After not being much of a fan the first time around, I had a blast watching this the other day and asking fellow WSB reviewer Gerard Iribe what was the meaning of this scene and so on.  It was almost an educational experience.  Thanks G!  And I think Brandon Peters said it best when he texted me saying maybe Man of Steel is just one of the movies where you had to get the first viewing out of the way to truly appreciate it.

Man of Steel (Blu-ray)

  • Summary: The film is certainly entertaining. If you’re tied too closely to the comic mythology, you’re going to have fits. I’m OK with most of the rewriting of Superman history. Hell… Smallville really played with the continuity, and look how beloved that show has become. The two hours and twenty minutes moves quickly, and you’ll feel like you got some bang for your buck.

Man of Steel

BluRay Authority

  • Excerpt: Superman.  Just saying the word evokes images of a flowing red cape, jet black hair and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. And, let’s face it, this is probably one superhero that pretty much everyone has heard of.  Superman first burst onto the scene in Action Comics #1 in the late 1930’s (and if anyone out there actually has a mint condition copy of that issue, I’m sure it’s worth quite a pretty penny).

  • Conclusion: A character with as much history as Superman ensures that his every big screen incarnation is worth a look. Sadly, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is not much more than that. It's a slight improvement over Superman Returns and presumably the maligned latter two of Christopher Reeve's outings.

Man of Steel 3D (2013)

  • Conclusion: Man of Steel shows tremendous potential throughout but squanders its dramatic promise on action that spills from one kinetic act to the next, sometimes with barely a breath between beatdowns. It's all thrilling stuff; visually it's as rousing as Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, not to mention one of the more effective realizations of what it might look like if superpowered beings went toe to toe on Earth. The Kryptonians' speed alone is a sight to behold.

Man of Steel - 3D

High-Def Digest
8 November 2013
  • Conclusion: From a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer, 'Man of Steel' surprises with its thoughtful reimagining of Superman's origins and the personal challenges he faces in his journey to becoming the iconic hero he's known for being. Director Zack Snyder brings his usual bombastic flair but manages to deliver the sort of comic book adaptation fans love to watch and will hopefully serve as the beginning of a new franchise.

Man of Steel (2013)

  • Conclusion: I'm kind of in the middle ground with regard to Man of Steel . I don't think it's the masterpiece the film's staunchest advocates argue it is, nor do I think it's the abomination sullying the iconic history of this character that the most vociferous naysayers claim it is. For me, Man of Steel is an interesting but flawed attempt to reinvent the franchise.

Man of Steel 3D Blu-ray Review

DoBlu
5 November 2013
  • Excerpt: There is an arrogance in Man of Steel’s marketable appeal, an idea that something bred of established perfection could be made “better.” Everything is better in America as we’re bred to believe, so Warner harnesses writer David S. Goyer (who reignited Batman) to create a better Superman. Superman has a perfect masculine jaw. He is invincible. He stands for righteousness and hope. He wears the colors of our flag.
