Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

Sound & Vision Magazine
27 February 2013
  • Excerpt: But before long, the gang is on the run from an overzealous animal control officer, and their only hope is to run away with a down-and-out circus. An entertainment scout is looking to bring the show to the States, which would make everyone’s dreams come true, and so the newcomers need to make sure the upcoming London gig is one nobody will forget. Honestly, this third installment might be the best yet, full as it is of wit, action, and heart.

High-Def Digest

  • Conclusion: Finally bringing the journey back home full circle, 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' is a hilarious eye-dazzler, bursting with energy and a great deal of heart. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith reprise their roles and make a few new friends in Martin Short, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Chastain and Frances McDormand. It's a fun new addition to the quartet's misadventures back to New York and arguably the best of the franchise.

  • Excerpt: The Film The Madagascar franchise is a freight train that can't be stopped. And why bother? Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted may actually be the best of DreamWorks' insanely successful series. The third film picks up exactly where Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa left off. Our furry friends are still stranded in Africa, still longing for the bright lights and big cages of the zoo in New York City.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted (Blu-ray)

  • Summary: The film involves the usual slapstick and cat-and-mouse games that have been entertaining kids long before the Coyote has been chasing the Roadrunner. In fact, I swear I heard a couple of beep beep’s. The new characters are interesting enough, but this is really kid’s fare and doesn’t have a whole lot to feed the adults in the audience who came to entertain the kids.

  • Conclusion: Greatly exceeding expectations, Madagascar 3 brings style and substance to what had been DreamWorks' flimsiest franchise. This sequel succeeds where its two predecessors did not, going beyond broad animal comedy in an international adventure that includes emotion alongside entertainment. It's another sign that the studio known for somewhat crass commercial works continues to mature and narrow the gap between them and Pixar.

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted 3D Review

DoBlu
10 October 2012
  • Excerpt: Madagascar is a billion dollar franchise worldwide. Two theories on why that is: 1. Audiences become so transfixed by the throbbing beat of “ Move it, Move it ” every summer, they’re brainwashed into a psychosis to see these things. 2. Holy crap, Madagascar 3 is actually fun. Honestly, most of Madagascar 2 is a wash. There was a plane, some penguins, and the trailer played with obnoxiousness during the summer theatrical season of 2008.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted (2012)

  • Conclusion: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted satisfies at every turn with great animation, vibrant colors, and plenty of quirks. It's packed with complex and fast-paced action that, along with the colors and animation, helps to cover for what is a rather routine plot with standard plot devices and largely unimaginative humor. Still, the bottom line is that the movie works as advertised.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

Cinema Blend

  • Excerpt: Madagascar 3 is high-energy chaos. It’s more than two hours worth of material crammed into a measly eighty-five minutes. It doesn’t stop for breaths or pause to consider the physics of its stunts. It just goes and goes and goes, blending word gags, sight gags, physical comedy and strange accents until the final credits suddenly role.
