Summary: I was expecting this film to have a creationist slant, but it does not. It is a bit like David Attenborough for children. It has first class nature photography, but it is aimed at children with a dumbed-down narration by Oprah Winfrey and somewhat Disneyfied music. It sometimes has an odd prudishness about fish reproduction. The creatures chosen are each bizarre and entertaining but ones I have seen before.
Excerpt: I am a great fan of documentaries. When I found about this one, I first watched on YouTube to be sure I liked it. Of course, I did and then bought the BR. Video is amaaazingly good. I love it. Audio is great for a documentary, I like David Attenborough's voice. It fits quite well here. Extras... well. I don't know if anyone got extras because I didn't!
Excerpt: So there's no real need to comment on this movie, if you grew up watching Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence and you're into real comedy and not that weak slapstick comedy this is for you. Life is a great comedy with a great and sad story, alot like Adam Sandler's CLICK. This will always be on of my favorite comedies simply because its just still that good. Till this day i laugh at it like its the first time watching it.
Excerpt: I didn't think Planet Earth could be topped, but I think LIFE is actually a bit better than even Planet Earth. Both should be seen and are worth owning, but the PQ was definitely superior to PE since I don't remember seeing anything shot in SD while viewing LIFE. The content of this set of docs blew my mind. The one on "Plants" was probably the most surprising for me. Most of these subject matters are so well done I don't want them to end.
Excerpt: Movie: underrated classic Picture: good. A little DNR, but not too bad. Sound: could have been better. One or two scenes play a little muffled. Extras: everything from the DVD is ported over. Overall: pretty good presentation.
Excerpt: This was a really great release by BBC it beats out planet earth by a long shot in hd filming and of the varying topics that this life set brings to the table. The hd scenes are stunning top rate. The audio is great giving 5/5. Overall a great nature bluray this is the better version the David Attenbourgh. I would stay away from the American release which is narrated by Oprah.
Excerpt: The picture quality and audio quality are top-tier and fully immersive, the documentary really allows you to experience the events you see. The narration is perfect (provided you have the David Attenborough version) and gives a lot of interesting facts throughout. Unlike some nature documentaries Life is both educational and entertaining, you'll want to keep watching.
Excerpt: Watching Planet Earth you think that a documentory of what goes on here on our planet could not get any better, that is until you see Life. Both are the cream of the crop but Life IMO exceeds Planet Earth. They both are 5's in the subject matter and the way it's presented. The breathtaking photography here warrants a 5 on PQ for the most part being spot on.
Excerpt: okay, so i just received my copy of life and this is outstanding! i was not too sure of purchasing it but something about this could not make me not want to get it!! i own it now and am proud of it this is totally beautiful !!!! dont think too much go buy it ! ummm the locations they have shot in are like heaven ! you just wanna be there and guess what you are there !
Summary: After the tremendous success of the extraordinary and revolutionary nature documentary series Planet Earth, a similar programme was bound to follow, and indeed it did. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, this series uses the same special camera normally in the film industry to slow down the quickest action and get close to it.
