  • Excerpt: "When Anna's (Amy Adams) four-year anniversary to her boyfriend passes without an engagement ring, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Inspired by an Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men on Leap Day, Anna follows Jeremy (Adam Scott) to Dublin to propose to him. But after landing on the wrong side of Ireland, she must enlist the help of the handsome and carefree local Declan (Matthew Goode) to get her across the country.

Leap Year

  • Excerpt: Predictable as hell but ultimately delivering exactly what's advertised, the fun rapport between Adams and Goode is often enough to keep this movie from totally sinking into its own formula-driven plot.

Leap Year

AV Club

  • Excerpt: Winner of the Camera D’Or for Best First Feature at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, the bracing Mexican psychodrama Leap Year unfolds almost entirely in a dim, seedy one-room apartment that doubles as living space and state of mind. With equal debt owed to two mid-’70s touchstones—half to Last Tango In Paris , half to Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai Du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles —writer-director Michael Rowe patiently details the grinding routine of its 25-year-old occupant, Monica...

In Theaters: Leap Year

movieline
12 April 2011
  • Excerpt: If you've seen the poster for Leap Year , Anand Tucker's big, rattling snore of a romantic comedy, you know how it ends. Amy Adams + Matthew Goode = True Love Forever. If you've seen any of screenwriting duo Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont's previous films, including Made of Honor and Surviving Christmas , you can anticipate pretty much every frame of its doggedly, almost abrasively cut-and-paste plot, from the opening montage of Boston real estate fluffer Anna's (Adams)...

Leap Year

High-Def Digest

  • Conclusion: 'Leap Year' is an ugly, ugly film. There's nothing original or enjoyable here. No one dies. Everyone should have. Sadly, I really enjoyed Goode in 'Match Point.' Now I want to accost him with a two-by-four while wearing blue tighty whities like I'm Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Universal did bring out the big guns, with great audio and video, but dropped the ball on the extras, which were as flat as the film.

Leap Year Review

DoBlu
4 May 2010
  • Excerpt: Leap Year wants you to believe it is not going to be clichéd. It toys with the audience, making it seem funnier than it is. Is it playing with the cliché and turning it upside down? See, Anna (Amy Adams) wants to marry that guy who always plays the obnoxious jerk (Adam Scott). Since he has failed to propose, she decides to follow an Irish tradition, following him to Dublin to make the proposal herself on February 29th, hence the title.

Leap Year

Cinema Blend
8 January 2010
  • Excerpt: This time of year, with the weather brutal and the remaining Oscar fare depressing, we could really use a decent romantic comedy. Unfortunately no one ever takes up that challenge, instead offering easy paycheck stuff like Bride Wars or this year's offering, Leap Year . It's at least not blatantly misogynistic or quite as ridiculous as others of its kind, but Leap Year commits what might be an even bigger offense toward audiences in need of an escape from January...

Leap Year

AV Club
7 January 2010
  • Excerpt: Like last year’s dire Isla Fisher vehicle Confessions Of A Shopaholic , Leap Year pits the megawatt charm of an adorable actress against the inanity of the romantic comedy at its most insultingly convoluted and ridiculous. Star Amy Adams is a sentient ball of cuteness, but not even she nor her appealing co-star Matthew Goode can keep this gimmicky contraption afloat.
