Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D Review

DoBlu
13 June 2012
  • Excerpt: In 1925, Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World became a theatrical juggernaut, based almost entirely on the strength of stop motion dinosaurs, sourced from the hands of Willis O’Brien. In 1960, Irwin Allen remade Lost World , but ditched the stop motion for a slap dash iguana covered in a prosthetic. Audiences didn’t buy it, although calling the creature a Tyrannosaur wasn’t brilliant either.

  • Excerpt: I wish that director Brad Peyton’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island had been an amazing adventure film. I also wish that it was so remarkably terrible that it managed to become entertaining. Instead, the movie is set firmly in the middle, neither good nor bad, but also instantly forgettable.

  • Excerpt: Dwayne Johnson’s curious habit of starring in sequels ( Be Cool , Race To Witch Mountain , Fast Five , G.I Joe: Retaliation ) to films he had nothing to do with continues with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island , a dire follow-up to the 2008 3-D special effects extravaganza Journey To The Center Of The Earth , with Johnson replacing an AWOL Brendan Fraser (who apparently finally found a green-screen he could resist) as the film’s lead .

12 May 2014
  • Summary: The sequel to 2008’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth does little to diverge from the typical formula. Essentially, it’s the hamburger meat of American family adventure films. Every element feels overly processed, from characters with standard stapled-on personalities to story arcs that can be predicted beat-for-beat. More That’s not to say it’s a bad film.
