Excerpt: While Pulp Fiction may be Quentin Tarantino’s best film, at least in my opinion, I’ve always felt that his most interesting piece of material has always been Jackie Brown . It’s my favorite of all of the films that he’s made and one that I’m happy to revisit again and again.
Conclusion: Less flashy, violent, and beloved as Quentin Tarantino's other movies, Jackie Brown is of his most gripping, substantial, and enjoyable works, perhaps second only to Inglourious Basterds . On Blu-ray, in addition to an outstanding feature presentation, the movie is treated to one of the best collection of bonus features I've ever encountered, offering a wealth of varied and entertaining extras which Lionsgate deserves major kudos for retaining.
Excerpt: Jackie Brown (Pam Grier, Escape from L.A. ) has been a flight attendant for 19 years and receives only a paltry $16,000 a year for her tireless efforts. To make a little money on the side, she occasionally makes some illegal cash deliveries for local gun runner Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson, Pulp Fiction ).
Conclusion: If you enjoy Quentin Tarantino movies or just like movies where everyone double-crosses each other so much that you never know how it’s going to end, then you should enjoy this movie. It’s got a great cast, funny dialogue, and enough ruthlessness and violence to qualify as a Tarantino movie. This Blu-ray also looks and sound great and it’s leaps and bounds better than the previous DVD release. Plus, it’s only around $10 on Amazon, so how could you pass this up?
Conclusion: 'Jackie Brown' is the most understated of Quentin Tarantino's films. It's also is one of only two films in his canon that gets better every time I watch it (with ' Inglourious Basterds ' being the other). This disc is solid, and for the asking price, is borderline phenomenal. For ten bucks, you bet your sweet behind that I'm giving this one an easy recommendation!
Summary: There's something that neither the "those who can't, teach" professors at film school nor the fawning acolytes that form any given Hollywood celebrity's entourage discuss after someone has managed to break through with one of the most acclaimed films of all time: namely, what to do as a follow up.
