Summary: Given the reviews - turned out better than I was expecting. I didn't mind the characters, though the plot was overly convoluted. Still, unlike say a Bourne or Mission Impossible - I don't think this will take off as an action series but even if things get complicated, it's not a bad actioner.
Summary: Like Mission Impossible but simply not good. Cruise is as flat as a pancake. I don't know why he continuously selects action only roles. He needs to skip these and add some depth. The story is weak as well. Forgettable.
Excerpt: I am a fan of Jack Reacher. I am. I've read some of the books and I like the hardcore character Lee Child has created. But when I heard Tom Cruise was casted as Jack Reacher in the movie, my facepalm was so severe, my hand went through my head. I have nothing against Tom Cruise. Admittedly, the guy is a little nuts with Scientology and all, but he still is a damn fine actor in movies such as Jerry Maguire and Magnolia. But nowadays, I can't stand him in action movies.
Excerpt: Jack Reacher baffled me. This has nothing to do with the plot being complicated (as it's insulting to the intellect) or a twist I didn't see coming (as any twists in this film can be seen from a mile away). Jack Reacher baffled me because it was moderately successful at box office, moderately successful with critics, and moderately successful with audience members.
Excerpt: Jack Reacher Directed by Chrsitopher McQuarrie Starring Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike 2/4 A serious mismatch here! Tom Cruise plays the smart and intelligent detective with a military past. The problem here, is the plot. A basic wafer thin plot, intentionally complicated to lose your heads out. Reacher is choked with plenty of dialogs and one who sits and patiently listens to it might feel slightly disappointed. McQuarrie’s direction lacks energy.
Excerpt: "You think I'm a hero, I'm not a hero. I'm a drifter with nothing to lose." Tom Cruise plays Jack Reacher, a rough ex-military cop who is enjoying early retirement in near paranoid solitude. When a former army sniper, James Barr expertly shoots and kills five random people at PNC Park in Pittsburgh during broad daylight, the police are quick to arrest him.
Excerpt: One of my least favorite Tom Cruise movies, however loved the car he drove er stole in this. Ahhh yesss the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS made this often boring film worthwhile in my books with a good couple of car chases to boot. Ok the movie wasn't bad i just thought it would be so much more then what was offered expecially after seeing the kickass trailer that was brought out for it last year.
Excerpt: Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) is a sniper trying to rescue a girl and was eventually framed. A simple plot yet prolonged by in adequate screenplay and including an underutilized Robert Duvall. The score was suspenseful and bountiful well choreographed action was in full display. This however was affected by the slow pace and uneven direction. Cruise played his part sincerely but as mentioned, it falls short as a whole.
