Excerpt: In 1992, 23-year-old Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), disillusioned – for reasons that can ultimately only be guessed at – with modern life, walked into the Alaskan wilderness as the climax of a two year odyssey across America. He wasn't seen again until a pair of hunters came across him by accident a year later.
Excerpt: I don’t read books the way I used to and in fact, since starting up DVD Authority in 1999 I can count the number of books I’ve read on my fingers. I vaguely remember the story of Christopher McCandless, the story of a college student who gave up all of his possessions and ventured into the West only to die in the Alaskan wilderness. Now I don’t think I’m giving anything away here when I say what happened, after all it says it on the cover of the book.
Excerpt: "'Into The Wild' is inspired by the true story of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), a young man who abandons his life of comfort to pursue the freedom of life on the road, a quest that leads him to the Alaskan wilderness and the ultimate challenge of his life.
Summary: If you look back on the advancements of modern society within the past 100 years, you'll realize just how far the human race has developed in a relatively short period of time. Technological inventions arrive with blinding speed, and what seems like a vast improvement today, will be overshadowed by the next big thing tomorrow.
Conclusion: As a film, I can’t recommend ‘Into the Wild’ enough. Penn’s direction is masterful, his cast delivers outstanding performances, and his adaptation of Krakauer’s book as a lyrical tragedy is both stirring and disquieting. As a Blu-ray release, it has a lot to offer as well. Yes, it still suffers from the same underwhelming supplemental package as its previous DVD and HD DVD editions, but its excellent video transfer and haunting TrueHD audio mix more than make up for it.
Excerpt: For those who know me well, know that I love reading non-fiction. Especially when it’s about something or someone exciting, I've gone through my biographies phase and onto tragic events that shaped the world. Jon Krakauer 's book "Into the Wild" is in my 'to read' pile and one I'm excited to read considering I just finished watching this excellent motion picture.
