HUGO - Almost perfect

johnm_001, blu-ray.com
26 November 2013
  • Excerpt: I have no idea what the formal reviewer meant with regard to cross talk. I experienced no cross talk on my LG passive set. The film is beautifully rendered from start to finish. The 3D is integral, I think, to the experience. From beginning to end, the movie is pure cinema, and expertly crafted. I love the story. However, the film could use some better editing. Many of the shots, though beautiful to look at in 3D, are repetitive, and add nothing to the story.

Hugo

  • Excerpt: Martin Scorsese's fantastic adaptation of the novel comes to live in blu-ray. This transfer (as far as video and audio quality goes) are reference quality. Extras didn't blow me away but they are sufficient. If you plan on adding this to your collection, it is, without a doubt, worth paying extra money for the blu-ray. You'll be glad you did.

We all need the latest technology

ozzieal, blu-ray.com
26 May 2013
  • Excerpt: I like to read the reviews on blu-ray.com but I'm wondering if the reviewers are up-to-date with technology. I have a 2013 LG cinema 3D tv and did not experience the crosstalk issues reported in the official review. The 3d experience was good but not perfect - there were some issues with story book 'pop-up', but overall it was an impressive experience. In regard to the film, I felt it was too long and took too much time to establish the characters.

3D so good it can go head to head with Avatar.

Operation Swordfish, blu-ray.com
22 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Martin Scorsese created the world of Hugo with 3D in mind from the ground up. The only way you can really experience Hugo in the way he wanted you to is in 3D. There are 3D movies that you could pass on because maybe you see 3D as only a gimmick. There is no gimmick here. Scorsese uses 3D to immerse you into the world of Hugo as amazing as James Cameron was able to immerse you into Avatar with 3D. Every scene is filled with jaw dropping depth, and amazing cinematography.

"The Invention of Dreams."

Avageektwit, blu-ray.com
25 January 2013
  • Excerpt: Martin Scorsese is known for his surreal and potent crime dramas like ‘Goodfellas’, ‘Casino’ and ‘The Departed’ to name a few. He had dived deep into some intense character-dramas like ‘Shutter Island’, ‘Cape Fear’ and ‘Taxi Driver’. He’s even done some sparkling cinema spectacles such as ‘The Aviator’. He is a masterful filmmaker with immaculate craftsmanship and complex understanding of how movies should be made, with his own cinematic flair.

No matter how old you are... there's no denying it

Krazey Syko, blu-ray.com
26 December 2012
  • Excerpt: Three years ago I read the book and I thought it would make a decent movie. A "decent" movie. Well, I was wrong without a doubt. I rented this movie on blu-ray and it was spectacular. There's nothing better than a really good story and outstanding picture quality (along with good CGI). And those of you who have seen it in 3D, I wonder if it could really be THAT much better than 2D? I bought this movie and it is definitely a movie for ANYbody (I'm a 16 yr old boy).

  • Excerpt: Prachtige film!

  • Excerpt: Hugo, our main character, forced to be living and surviving as orphan all by himself in what seems Le Guare de L'Est in Paris. But he won't be alone for long. There are good people accompanying him in his kind of David Copperfield-adventure. A little puppet, an automaton, in a way assists Hugo in his search for an answer to the universal question: "What is my purpose?". A great family movie we absolutely reccommend.

Hugo
