Summary: This film is slow. Once it gets into the groove its very good and the humor is ok. Steve Carrell should of placed a bigger part. Tommy Lee Jones is an odd pick for a comedy. Meryl Streep is amazing as usual.
Summary: There is a lot to love about Hope Springs. Admittedly it is a slower film and the comedy is slight so don't expect slap stick or vulgar shock humour (which does have it's place so don't get me wrong.) The characters are very well written and the performances from both Tommy and Meryl are captivating and very moving at times. If a film has the ability to move me to tiers of either sadness or joy then its well worth the time taken.
Summary: I cannot believe this has got through trading standards descriptions as a comedy! The most depressing 1hr 40 of my life spent watching some great actors trying to make marriage failure seem entertaining. The physical scenes were disturbing and cringeworthy-so I guess on that score it was realistic.
Summary: Hope Springs itself was not as we expected, and not as humourous as we thought it would be. But the story itself is lovely. There are a lot of funny moments, but a fair amount of serious ones. It's a good film that you can laugh and cry about at the same time. It's easy for all the family to watch, and very light-hearted. The story itself is based on an issue that a lot of people have when they get older and their kids have moved out - it's very realistic and funny.
Summary: I bought Hope Springs for my mother who enjoys Meryl Streep films. She said the casting was great, with Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell also playing excellent parts. She enjoyed the film, it was cheaper for the Blu-ray than for the DVD which I cannot complain about, the quality was good and the audio is as can be expected from a Blu-ray.
Summary: Although I enjoyed Hope Springs, I thought it didn't really match up to all the hype. Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones acted it brilliantly, but I found the pace very slow. Yes, it was never billed an action film. but is an insight into the marriage of two people who have lost their spark, and how they find their way back. I found it best to watch on my own or with a female friend - I think I'd squirm to watch it with my mother or husband!
