Summary: Imaginative and with wonderful acting I watched this the whole way through in the hope that it would make sense by the end. Unfortunately it does not. Completely unintelligible. Weirdness can make something interesting but it will only take you so far. If it is nothing but weirdness it ends up being pretty unsatisfying. I was entertained for 1hr45m but at the end I was just as confused as I had been 5 minutes in. Bonkers.
Summary: - and an essay on cinema as art. It is inventive, packed with ideas, wit and surprises and a cumulative reflection on life. Dont expect a story line. May be a good idea to look it up on IMDB before watching so you know whats in store - then sit back, laugh, feel sad and enjoy. Because enjoy it we did.
Summary: I truly adore this director's 'Pola X', but this film verged on the silly. Lots of lovely Parisien scenes, but not mich else, interms of character/plot etc. As an unapologetic French cinema snob, I was unapolegetically disappointed.
Summary: This is the most pretentious and pointless movie I've ever watched. Maybe the makers thought it was clever. Well, it isn't. We kept waiting for some clever revelation that would pull all the threads together, something that would explain the absolutely bizarre episodes the main character dragged us through. No luck. The final scene with the cars was just the last straw. I felt cheated. I'd give zero stars but I don't think it's possible.
Summary: I wouldn't disagree with the critics entirely. This is a film in the classic French tradition of surrealist cinema and it fulfils that role admirably. However I felt it lacked the pathos of say, Bertrand Blier or the playfulness of Louis Bunuel. The French do love their outrageously ugly leading actors!
Summary: Still don't know what it was about, but I liked it. It's certainly visually attractive and I found it engaging. It even, for such a strange movie, provides an unexpected twist at the end. I'm telling my friends to have a look so something connected.
Summary: A real What the hell movie, a double What the hell film, but after watching it all the way through i liked it alot. Its visual amazing and superbely acted. Lavant deserves all the awards this year for playing 11 characters. Minogue in her best film to date even speaking in a french voice. The section with Mendes was the oddest and creepiest. An exploration of cinema meets in reincarnation - see it.............................
