Summary: The problem that any new science fiction series faces is that of finding a new story to tell - time travel, alien invaders, alternative universes all have been done before in some shape of other. In print and television and on to the big screen, it's all be covered, from H. G. Wells to Dr. Who to Star Trek and Babylon 5 and the X Files. The clever bit is in finding a new angle on the same old concepts. Does Fringe manage to do this?
Summary: Maybe I am being a tad unfair here but we decided to give up on Fringe because it doesn't seem like our kind of science fiction. I think you have to like J. J. Abrams' way of doing things..and we don't. I have never forgiven him for what he has done to Star Trek and it seems that the same style is applied here - a total lack of subtlety and depth. This feels more like science fiction with a strong dollop of horror.
Summary: Very intriguing series, sometimes difficult to follow all the swapping and switching between different timelines and parallel universes. Watching the entertaining characters encourages you to follow the convoluted plot lines.
Summary: If you are an X Files fan, this series was made for you: plenty of creatures, scifi ideas and clever storytelling. The masterful John Noble stands out, balancing pathos and comedy as the slightly mad genius, Dr Bishop. It's high quality, cinematic drama made for the wide screen, especially rewarding when watched in full 1080P, Blu-ray. The ensemble cast has enough chemistry to make you care about them individually and as a band.
The ending of Fringe 2.0 - no end for the original Fringe
8 May 2013
Excerpt: The problem with this fifth season is that it follows on from the series' fourth. The audience can't help but feel cold about this conclusion because, quite frankly, this incarnation of the series is not what the audience started with, and the first three seasons will now forever be without their own conclusion. The season itself is competent, but still doesn't capture the true feel or scope of the earlier seasons.
Summary: I bought Fringe - Season 5 on Blue Ray to complete what has been a collection of fantastic episodes. Each have been packed with drama, spectacle and escapism. I would recommend the programme, with it's twists and turns, to any sci-fi fans out there who like a good thrill ride from the TV shows they watch. It is a unique show, with characters anyone can relate to or empathise with. I got it from Zavvi at a reasonable price with prompt delivery too.
