Evan Almighty Blu-ray Review

12 September 2012
  • Summary: When it comes to a question of preference between 2003's "Bruce Almighty" and 2007's "Evan Almighty," I vote a little differently than the moviegoing public. "Bruce" featured a clever idea that posited Jim Carrey as God, using heavenly powers to alter the world as his character, Bruce Nolan, saw fit.

  • Excerpt: "This better be good 'cause that's a lot of money." - Wanda Sykes, taken completely out of context from one of Evan Almighty 's extras Okay, okay...I know what you're thinking. "He's reviewing Evan Almighty now ? Didn't that come out, like, six months ago?" Sorry. It just took me a while to muster up the courage, and Evan Almighty really is that awful.

  • Excerpt: Carell is Evan Baxter, formerly a news anchor in Buffalo, now a congressman who campaigned on the platform of "changing the world." It's not long after he and his family land in D.C. that he's put on a new path. God (Morgan Freeman, Bruce Almighty ) makes an appearance, tasking Evan with building an ark.

Evan Almighty

  • Excerpt: Evan Almighty takes the biblical story of Noah, modernizes it, and then tells it the way Christian church leaders probably wish it was. You know, the warm, fluffy, pop-up book version with cute, fuzzy animals and none of that whole wrath of god, weeping and gnashing of teeth stuff that’s actually in it. Also missing is my favorite part of the biblical story: Noah’s drunken, nude, post-flood celebration.

  • Summary: Nominal sequel to "Bruce Almighty" finds Steve Carell assigned Noah's job. Once you stop laughing at that, there's not much left.
