Evan Almighty Blu-ray Review

  • Conclusion: The finale of "Evan Almighty" goes huge to pay off the enormity of the ark situation, requiring extravagant visual effects and a suitably thunderous act of God to fit all the pieces together. It's a heavy conclusion to a light picture, electing noise over cleverness to find a way out of the story. Again, this is not a tremendous picture, but it has a small amount of charm that's handled sensibly.

  • Excerpt: "Bruce Almighty" (2003) was a sizeable enough hit to warrant a sequel; the only problem was that the original stars, Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston were not interested in reprising their roles. The script was eventually sold to Sony attracting high bids from studios including Universal. Director Tom Shadyac convinced Sony to partner with Universal to rework the script into a direct sequel to "Bruce Almighty".

  • Excerpt: "This better be good 'cause that's a lot of money." - Wanda Sykes, taken completely out of context from one of Evan Almighty 's extras Okay, okay...I know what you're thinking. "He's reviewing Evan Almighty now ? Didn't that come out, like, six months ago?" Sorry. It just took me a while to muster up the courage, and Evan Almighty really is that awful.

  • Excerpt: Evan Almighty takes the biblical story of Noah, modernizes it, and then tells it the way Christian church leaders probably wish it was. You know, the warm, fluffy, pop-up book version with cute, fuzzy animals and none of that whole wrath of god, weeping and gnashing of teeth stuff that’s actually in it. Also missing is my favorite part of the biblical story: Noah’s drunken, nude, post-flood celebration.

  • Summary: Nominal sequel to "Bruce Almighty" finds Steve Carell assigned Noah's job. Once you stop laughing at that, there's not much left.
