Excerpt: Quick tip: Don't eat anything before or during this movie. You will regret it. I decided to give D9 another watch, since I didn't enjoy it the first time. Now I enjoy it even less. First and foremost, Wikus is an idiot. He's like a South African Peter Griffin, and that's bad marketing for the country. I'm most likely in the minority that thinks this: I think Neill Blomkamp is a terrible director. By now, I'm pretty sure he lenses his films through an iPod.
Excerpt: It was the marketing coup of the young century: When in January 2008 "Cloverfield" launched in theaters worldwide, the film was already on everyone's lips. The "Cloverfield" strategists at producer J.J. Abrams had without the pull of big stars get along and there was no popular literary model. In addition, the budget of just $ 25 million was far removed from the usual blockbuster for comparable magnitude.
Excerpt: This film really surprised me. I had high expectations, but I did not know this would be great. This film is brilliant! The thing that caught my attention right away was the documentary sections. I did not think it could be so appealing, but the mockumentary strategy really sets this film apart from every other lame alien movie. It makes the entire story feel so real. Brilliant filmmaking!
Summary: This movie was intense throughout. The effects were amazing and so were all the characters. With social commentar throughout, this movie provided, action, suspense, sadness, happiness, and all around craziness. Strangely believable on so many levels. This movie is a MUST see for all. This is not your average Sci-Fi Movie.
Summary: Although the thinly veiled allegory for apartheid is at times preachy, the sci-fi post-apocalyptic world crafted here is unique and richly realized. First-time actor Sharlto Copley is impressive and the film manages to remain exciting, while, at the same time, touching on interesting themes not often found in the sci-fi genre.
Summary: This is an terrific action movie, no doubt. But I think something was missing in this movie, may be star cast or better sound score. Somehow a satire to the human too. This movie is a good pop corn kinda movie. I enjoyed this movie watching in the DVD, which was my first time watching this movie.
Excerpt: When an malfunctioning alien spaceship strands over a million of its inhabitants on Earth, they find an unlikely champion in the shape of a previously self serving weapons manufacturer exec who starts to metamorphose into one of them after exposure to an unknown chemical. District 9's plot takes a lot of cues from cult 80s sci-fi, most obviously the racism allegory of Alien Nation and the genetic mutation premise from Cronenberg's The Fly.
Excerpt: Here is yet another perfect example of what should have been a really interesting concept as a baseline for a great sci-fi movie. Instead we get a story that initially hooks you but then loses focus and eventually drifts off into absurdity. The tip off should have been the fact that to gain any traction, this movie had to have Peter Jackson’s name attached to it (as producer); because most of us have never heard of anyone else in this film.
Excerpt: Multinational United (MNU) is tasked to relocate the aliens from District 9 to District 10. Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley) is assigned the relocation of aliens by serving illegal eviction notices. He then gets infected while growing an alien arm so MNU conducts several tests such as using his hand to fire the alien weapons. Wikus makes a deal with an alien (Christopher) to have his hand fixed and the aliens go home.
