Excerpt: I bought this for 2 reasons...Marisa Tomei and the 4.99 price tag....Nothing funny about it.I wouldn't even classify it as a drama...Mediocre movie about a momma's boy wrecking havoc on her relationship..Where was the funny stuff?? I must of missed it....Production was bad...Looked like it was filmed with a home video camera...
Excerpt: I was intrigued by this movie after I saw the trailers, but never got around to actually going to the theater to see it. This movie is not what the trailer makes it out to be. It is not a laugh it up comedy, but more of a dramedy. I usually tend to enjoy dramedy's but when i expect it to be hilarious, it kind of throws it off. I didn't hate this film, but I certainely didn't love it. I thought the acting was fairly good as well as the PQ and AQ.
Excerpt: I remember seeing previews for this a long time ago. When the movie came out to the theater up by me I went to go see it. The first thing I thought after the movie was finished I thought it was hilarious! I was laughing so hard during parts with Jonah Hill and John C. Riley. I would recommend this film to anyone who has had a close relationship with their mother. The video I thought was a great transfer.
Summary: Is this a comedy or a family drama? No idea and nor has the film. That's the problem. It's sort of like an even worse version of STEP BROTHERS (with Will Ferrell and John C Reilly) that really is just "meh." Neither witty nor intelligent, it's not insightful nor engaging. It's just ok. Watchable but dull. Great cast. So what? OCEANS 12 had a great cast and that stank worse than my granny's toilet after curry night at the retirement home.
Conclusion: This first foray into mainstream comedy by the Duplass brothers is a really refreshing take on a very simple tale. Guy meets girl, falls in love, has to contend with her son. In this case, the son is fully grown, still living at home, largely sociopathic and has some serious possessive issues. The comedy here is very low-key but no less effective, and totally sold to us by a set of very truthful performances from all concerned.
Conclusion: It's a pretty good comedy, about a man who meets the woman of his life - and then he meets her son, who hates him and tries to make them break up. Jonah Hill is himself like always.. :P I never really liked John C. Reilly much, but in this movie he does a surprisingly good job.
Summary: Oder: Dick und doof The King of Pop John (John C. Reilly) hat das Gefühl, das Leben würde an ihm vorbeiziehen: Er ist geschieden, lebt alleine in einer kleinen Wohnung und arbeitet nebenbei als Cutter.
