A Decent Wahlberg Movie

bls5054, blu-ray.com
15 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I went into this film not expecting much from the reviews and I enjoyed it. Is it a must see? No. It is worth watching though if you enjoy this kind of film or Mark Wahlberg movies in general. The video quality wasn't the best at times and I did have to question if I put the DVD in by mistake at first.

  • Summary: Almost a complete rip off of Gone in 60 Seconds. Except for the general lack of sports cars. Also J.K. Simmons accent is really bad.

BRtruth, blu-ray.com

  • Excerpt: I don´t understand how some guys can give 4 or 5 stars to the PQ of these movie! So, you will give 8 or 9 stars to "2001...", "The Avengers" , etc ???? Sometimes you just barely see something in the screen. I have an Infocus IN81 and it is a great projector! But movies like this looks like a DVD !!! I don´t understand !!!!

Contraband review

FilmCrave
17 September 2012
  • Excerpt: Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) has quit being a smuggler. His wife's Kate (Kate Beckinsale) brother Andy (Caleb Landry Jones) smuggled drugs and mobster Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi) wants this to be settled. Overloaded figures with lack of character development, direction somewhat dizzying because of the jerky camera movement and the usual formula for a heist weakens the film tremendously. Ribisi was surprisingly chilling, the rest just uninteresting.

  • Summary: I thought this movie was really good. I like how the movie wasn't just filmed from the main character's camera. It was more philosophical than most action-adventure movies. very good. The ending was good as well.

Another Wahlberg winner!

FilmCrave
9 August 2012
  • Excerpt: Mark Wahlberg is on my top 10 actors of all time list for a reason, no not solely on his acting skills which are a tad just above average in my books it's becuase he #1 picks only from the coolest of scripts #2 has a very cool presence on screen expecially as a tough guy. His performance in 'Contraband' is no exception to all of those reasons.

"This is no f*cking bueno."

eljay, blu-ray.com
5 August 2012
  • Excerpt: Synopsis: After his brother-in-law, Andy, botches the drug-smuggling job mobster Tim Biggs hired him to do, Chris Farraday - a clean-living ex-smuggler - takes on one last job in order to keep Biggs from coming after him and his family to settle Andy's score. Comments: This thoroughly uninspiring and painfully by-the-book heist flick failed to rise above the low exepctations I had for it. And Giovanni Ribisi makes a pretty poor mobster. Blu-ray: PQ and AQ were very good.

  • Summary: There's a lot of intriguing heist action going on in this thriller, which is more explosive than inventive. The acting elevates the buy-the-books material a bit, particularly a chameleon-like performance from Giovanni Ribisi and the always-great Ben Foster. The ending and certain plot points tie up a little too neatly, but the film's a fun ride.

Smuggler's Blues...................

Guydowood, blu-ray.com
9 June 2012
  • Excerpt: Contraband spins the classic tale of a man who lives a life of crime, gets out but is sucked back in because a friend or family member is in deep and only the person who lived the life before can save them. Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale lead this flick of money smuggling and gun totting crimes for a fun and entertaining 2hrs. Universal's blu offers up a pristine PQ & AQ presentation and a small amount of extra's rounds out this solid release.
