Conclusion: Clueless was just as enjoyable, if not more so, than I remembered. I would never have guessed that a silly comedy like this would be one of my favorites. This is the type of movie that I always stop on when it comes on television and watch from any starting point. It’s light-hearted, requires no thinking whatsoever. Director Amy Heckerling talks about it being loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, and I would say it’s extremely loosely based.
Excerpt: The Film As if! Writer/director Amy Heckerling has been pretty hit or miss since her 1982 debut, Fast Times at Ridgemont High . After the crapfest that was Look Who's Talking Too , Heckerling went back to high school and redeemed her '90s resume with Clueless . Alicia Silverstone plays Cher, a Beverly Hills brat with a conscious and a kick-ass wardrobe. Privileged life aside, this one manages to capture '90s teen life to a tee.
Conclusion: Nearly twenty years since its release, 'Clueless' remains a charming teen satire with a terrifically memorable performance by Alicia Silverstone. Writer/director Amy Heckerling restyles and refashions the classic Jane Austen novel, Emma , into a contemporary comedy of manners which has now become another cultural reference point about high school girls.
Excerpt: It wasn’t intentional that Clueless would capture the essence of the ’90s. After all, it’s supposed to be a superficial satire, but with the grungy skateboarders, pop soundtrack, and growing digital connections, Clueless is anything other than its title. Amy Heckerling’s script is “in,” or rather it was back in 1995. Replete with slang, catchphrases, and ludicrously absurd fashion, in between the smarmy comedy lies the innocence of those teenage years.
Excerpt: As if ? Clueless is a movie that I’d originally vowed never to watch. Why? At the time I was sick of Alicia Silverstone, she was in every damn Aerosmith video – which actually only ended up to be three – and all over my TV. Man, I’m glad our obsession with celebrities is a thing of the past…oh wait – never mind. Nevertheless, I held firm on my commitment to not watch Clueless even when the first DVD came out a few years back.
Conclusion: OK, Cher here again. So by now you should know that I really really love Clueless . It's sort of like the movie that you should watch before Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion , which is like what happens when people like me grow up. But these were definitely the good old days. My outfits were really kicking! I had great friends, good times, and I sure did learn a lot about life and love!
