Chronicle

De, videoland
4 April 2014

  • Summary: With the superpowers they have and the situation they were put in (good vs. evil); I expected A LOT more from this movie than what I got. It was a very weak and shallow movie, as I felt I barely watched anything by the end. Great plot, terrible execution.

Enjoyable, but do not expect much

  • Excerpt: The premise was promising, but execution wasn't that good. What would teenagers do with superpowers they suddenly acquired? According to the director of this film, nothing really -- they were mostly obnoxious to the others, constantly doing pranks, giggling and talking nonsense, but I guess, that would be pretty accurate description of today's average teenagers.

  • Summary: If you liked Cloverfield, this is your type of movie. If you do not like a movie that looks like it was shot on a hand held camera, avoid. Plot etc would have been great if shot as a normal film, really looses it with the cloverfield/Blair Witch film style. Would be a value at $2-5, not at $15. If your into Sci-fi, save your money, there is better entertainment out there.

  • Excerpt: Realistic battle sequences and effects cannot overshadow the plot/direction and acting. Another documentary style film which was probably influenced again by the horrendous Blairwitch Project. Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan) is a shy depressed kid who videotaped his life. Matt (Alex Russell) makes an effort to improve Andrew’s social life by bringing him in a rave party. He meets Steve (Michael B. Jordan) and brings him to an unknown object.

  • Summary: I am sick of "found footage" style movies. I have a few that i really like, but this is not one of them. Would have been better as a standard movie. A cool concept that was paced well, surprisingly well directed and written. Can't wait to see the next flickk these guys do.

  • Summary: This movie was a good time killer, but not much more. It is ok to watch on DVD, but no need to watch in the theater. The story had all the right ideas, but lacked all the right stuff to bring it together into a great movie. The "Found Footage" aspect probably did not need to be done, and the characters needed more depth.

Not Quite Super, Man

  • Excerpt: I appreciate the effort, I really do - the found footage genre has been stuck in the horror rut for awhile now. Paranormal Activity (Good), Apollo 18 (Bad) and going back to The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield - you can put a sci-fi twist or ghostly twist, but it all comes down to horror. Chronicle takes things in a different direction.

Definitely didn't reach it's full potential

18 June 2012
  • Summary: With a great concept, being different from most conventional super-hero movies, they had a lot of potential to develop the movie into something great. Unfortunately we never were able to get to know the characters and develop a connection with them which left the emotional scenes had little effect on me as a viewer.
