Summary: this is one of the worse films I've ever seen. Bad plot, terrible acting, predictable story. In fact I turned it off halfway through because it was so bad I never even saw the end. The Blu-ray transfer had plenty of grain and wouldn't be an improvement on the DVD. All in all a disappointment, don't bother renting it.
very good release for a cult classic - despite the specs it IS the dir

Excerpt: Very good release!! I was disappointed when I got it on release day and saw that the back cover said it was R-rated and 90 minutes...but this is not true! I watched it and confirmed it is the 95 minute unrated director's cut. I compared the sex scene and several deaths with my uncut DVD and there was nothing missing. Running time was 95 min. It also says "Aspect Ratio: Widescreen" on the back cover....haha nice job, guys.
Excerpt: Castle Freak is amongst director Stuart Gordon strongest efforts. This tale of an unsuspecting american family inheriting said castle where something lurks in the dark makes for a serious, nasty and gory B fun. The gore is neat. Shot on a shoestring, production never looks cheap, but this transfer does. I had to adjust my rating after a second viewing because damages are just too big. There is tons of dirt and debris, scratches, burns, you name it.
Summary: I love horror films and there was a dry period in the 90's. So when this came out and I saw the poster I thought this could be good. How wrong was I, this is sooo bad that I had to recommend it to everyone, and everyone I recommended it to laughed at me. I dare you to watch this lol. When the film finishes (if u survive) you will be like 'what the ell was that'.
