Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

Daniel Corleone, FilmCrave
26 March 2013
  • Summary: A futuristic premise of Gotham City with an aged and heftier Batman. Well voiced and fairly paced. The soundtrack adds to the dark premise. It also introduces a new Robin, which this rater is familiar since a copy of The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. The film stays true to the story and violence. A great start to a two part series which boasts a Bane like antagonist with hundreds of followers/mutants. Sad to see the Commissioner retire.

The Batman Legacy.....

Guydowood, blu-ray.com
2 February 2013
  • Excerpt: Frank Miller's epic Dark Knight Returns story finally gets to be seen and heard in this original Warner Premiere animated movie. Not only does this tale push the limits for DC animated fair, it's done with care as this is the first of a two part epic journey of an older Bruce Wayne forced to bring Batman out of retirement to take on some humanoid mutants.

Maybe the best animated DC release ever

Scott, Warner Bros
20 December 2012
  • Summary: I own the original graphic novel by Frank Miller, so I had high hopes that DC would do a faithful job adapting it. Fortunately for everyone, they did. This is a great adaptation, and I found myself enjoying the film as if I had never read the book. It seemed as fresh as the original and kept that sense of suspense throughout the movie that is so prevalent in the book. Great to watch or give to a comic or Batman franchise fan.
  • Pros: Engaging Characters, Entertaining, Great Adaptation, High Production Value

Snoogans, FilmCrave
8 October 2012
  • Summary: The most psychological and violent of all the Batman animated films I've seen thus far. This boasts a cool, gritty story and exciting action. Great lead-in to the second part. Completely enjoyable for any Batman fan! Not for the very young.

  • Conclusion: This came to me highly recommended,a friend told me it was 'up there with the first 2 Nolan movies'. Given that it an animated movie I was very sceptical. However, it really is that good. Extremely violent and a great, great story.

  • Conclusion: Fantastic faithful animated adaptation of the classic Frank Miller graphic novel. Fans of the Miller comic, or indeed fans of the Batman character generally, shouldn't think twice before purchasing this Blu-ray!
