Conclusion: "Bachelorette" is certainly bawdy, but there's no invention to the mischief that supports an entire feature. Instead, we're treated to clichéd male behavior, mild gross-out jokes (a stripper uses Becky's dress to wipe off her crotch), and weird fixation on cocaine abuse, helping to fuel destructive behavior that's more sad than hilarious. Little of "Bachelorette" is inviting or informative, despite a script that demands an embrace in the final reel.
Summary: It’s a sad state when your supporting cast is much funnier than your leads. If you want to watch a female version of The Hangover , go watch Bridesmaids instead and save this turkey for Thanksgiving.
Conclusion: 'Bachelorette' is the perfect example of a rental flick. Is it worth watching? Yes - if you like dark crude comedies - but I learned the hard way that it depreciates in value with a second viewing. The bitterness of the characters is funny on the first viewing, but each becomes grating and unlikeable with multiple viewings. The darkness of the film becomes heavier and the subject matter sticks out like an uncomfortable sore thumb aside the actual comedy.
Excerpt: The four girls of Bachelorette would never be friends. One is a graduate of a high-end law school, one is addicted to crack, another festers deep emotional issues from her past, and another just sort of is. They are made out to be old high school allies, an out of whack clique who fell apart as they grew older, now mashed back together for a wedding. Yet, there never seems to be a connecting point here. The movie tries to to find something be sure.
Excerpt: In a memorable Mr. Show sketch , Bob Odenkirk plays an earnest young fellow who gathers his friends to make an exciting announcement: He’s getting married. The friends pause to take in the news, then, acting on some kind of uncontrollable urge, begin beating him to a pulp. Then they stop themselves, talk about what they’ve done, and start doing it again.
