Excerpt: Having no real knowledge of the works of Hayao Miyazaki, my 13 yr old daughter knew about this story and wanted me to buy it on bluray so I did. Now I am a fan! The Secret World of Arrietty is a beautiful story from start to finish.
Excerpt: Arrietty is an adaptation of The Borrowers. Borrowers, are tiny people who live underneath the floorboards of human homes. At night, they venture into the human home to "borrow" items whose disappearance would go unnoticed. Arrietty is 14 years old and about to embark upon her first borrowing.
Summary: While it may appear the complexity and depth of storytelling has been streamlined in favour of appealing to a wider, and younger audience, it would be ignorant to dismiss this as a lesser movie.
Summary: Arrietty is detailed and beautiful in every sence of the word and not just visualy. At one scene near the start of the film, the background sound of the grandfather clock is added to build up tension. And excilent family film.
Summary: I was really looking forward to seeing this film, I adore Studio Ghibli and the story of The Borrowers. The 1997 film The Borrowers was also a childhood favourite for me and I was expecting to be able to give a better review than this. This film was pleasant, but nothing beyond that.
