Conclusion: being a fan of the books, tv shows and the film the borrowers, its great to see a really good animated version of the story, studio ghible have done a smashing job, staying reasonably close to the book, the animation is at times breathtaking, with such detail. The voice overs are pretty good too, the story is well paced, and theres nothing horrible in it, its a old fashioned family film brought up to date with the latest in animation perfection.
Summary: While it may appear the complexity and depth of storytelling has been streamlined in favour of appealing to a wider, and younger audience, it would be ignorant to dismiss this as a lesser movie. The adaptation of The Borrowers seems perfectly fitted with the Ghibli brand, and the level of animation is beautifully rich in detail and the story magically creative for both young and old.
Summary: Arrietty is detailed and beautiful in every sence of the word and not just visualy. At one scene near the start of the film, the background sound of the grandfather clock is added to build up tension. And excilent family film. If you did not think that Cars 2 diliverd the goods that a Pixar film should, then see Arrietty. It is this years true Pixar film.
