  • Excerpt: Su-Mi (Im Soo-Jung) and her younger sister Su-Yeon have returned home after an incident that had them sent away by their father. Their young stepmother Eun-Joo (Yeom Jeong-A), still holding a grudge about what happened, resumes her torture of the younger sister, much to the ire of Su-Mi, who has been having horrible visions on top of these problems. Ultimately, the conflict between Su-Mi and her stepmother can only escalate into a final violent confrontation.

  • Excerpt: I’m starting to doubt that Asian cinema consists of anything more than suited men shooting guns in slow motion, mystic helium-sucking ninja warriors in Crayola colored pyjamas, and spooky slow-burning ghost stories. Thankfully, A Tale of Two Sisters is refreshingly a little different than the likes of Ringu , Ju-On or The Eye , leaning far more towards psychological sensibilities than a horror angle.

Efter den senaste tidens överdos av “j-horror” (ny japansk skräck, såsom The ring och The grudge) är det stor risk att detta långt mer ambitiösa, och redan två år gamla, verk hamnar i skymundan. Den sydkoreanske manusförfattaren och regissören Kim Jee-woon har haft stora inhemska framgångar med ett par bisarra komedier.
