Excerpt: Long time readers of this site will know my point of view on what Hollywood does with remakes, reboots, television shows as movies and so forth. I know we’ve got talented and creative people out there, so for tinseltown to turn out some of the films they turn out is, well, sickening. That’s not to say that there aren’t great films every year – there are.

Schmidt helpt Jenko op intellectueel vlak, terwijl Jenko Schmidt door de fysieke proeven helpt. REVIEW: 21 Jump Street Is Half Brilliant, Half a Mess, But Tatum and Hill Shine
12 September 2012
Excerpt: There’s a peculiar kind of pleasure to be found in watching Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, in 21 Jump Street , horsing around and generally acting like doofuses for our amusement. As rookie cops assigned to patrol — by bicycle — a city park, they’re more than ready to prove their tough-guy status: When they spot a bunch of biker guys experiencing the joys of cannabis beneath a tree, they strut toward the gang in their shorts and bike helmets, but not before flipping...
Excerpt: Hey you! Yeah, you. Doubty McDoubt pants who threw 21 Jump Street under the bus before it released because it’s another Hollywood ’80s TV show do-over. You were worried they were going to butcher your memories of a classic TV shows and… well, actually, they DID butcher an ’80s TV show, but to a good cause. Does 21 Jump Street have anything to do with the original series? Yes, in fact, if not until the final 10-minutes and via a fleeting cameo, but it’s something.
Excerpt: Can you believe it? I have never seen the 80’s television show 21 Jump Street in my 37+ years of living on this land and water filled planet. I’m a virgin! That’s horrible! I should be dragged down the streets by my ugly hair or publicly pelted and stoned in the middle of town square for admitting that, right?
Excerpt: The Film There have been no shortage of reboots, remakes and retellings by Hollywood of old with so-called "classic" TV being the fodder of many. This isn't exactly new, but what is new is how these are being handled. Instead of straight movie versions that stick to the original concept - SWAT and Mod Squad come to mind - more and more are either filling it with camp value or just making it as a spoof of the original.
Conclusion: I have to admit that expectations weren't really all that high for this movie. Not only were my mediocre expectations met, at the end of the movie I not only found myself wanting to watch it again right away just to get some of the lines I may have missed while I was laughing, but I found myself hoping that this entire cast of actors and filmmakers get together for a sequel as soon as possible. This is one of the funnier movies you'll see all year.
Excerpt: 21 Jump Street is a movie that was both exactly what I thought it was going to be and totally surprising. On the one hand it’s a by the numbers (no pun intended) buddy cop comedy where it turns out that the real problem they have to solve is within themselves, and on the other, it’s an almost unrecognizable remake of a franchise that’s almost 25 years old, that against my better judgement, I actually really enjoyed.
