Summary: After going through two other brands of Blu-Ray players I finally hit pay dirt, this is a solid nicely built piece of electronics that is quiet and does not vibrate. Excerpt: Bought as primarily an 'analog' CD player, the Yamaha BD-S677 has, in my estimation, been abnormally exceptional in a sea of mediocrity its audio reproduction of both CDs and SACDs. This is my first Yamaha product purchased in 30++ years of chasing home audio reproduction. It's a winner.
Bought it for the SACD playback function, love it for Blu-Ray

Summary: I bought the BD-677 because it's a nearly-universal disc player (it doesn't play DVD-A, but it plays just about everything else) that cost far less than most of the universal players out there, and I have a small collection of SACDs that were gathering dust.

Summary: This player freezes, unable to respond to any buttons, at random times. It needs a hard reboot after becoming locked up. It does this so often as to be unusable. In addition, it has very poor support of available video formats. It does not support numerous network services available online.
Lightweight Construction But a Solid Good Sounding Performer. Plays HDCD's!

Summary: Well I got this Yammy yesterday and popped it into my system to check it out and see what it does. I like another reviewer bought this mainly as an Universal 'Audio' player for SACD's. One surprise is that, although there is only ONE reference to it in the manual, It plays AND decodes HDCD's!
Excerpt: Nothing to complain about. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V677. Setup went smooth and easy. I haven't had time to try out all of the features on it, but what I have tried out worked great. I'm 100 percent satisfied with the player and will recommend it to everyone looking in this price range.
