Summary: This machine began malfunctioning almost from the start, often freezing and needing to be unplugged and plugged back in repeatedly in order for it to work at all. Finally, a few weeks before the warranty expired, it began locking up every time I tried to use Netflix. When I sent it back to Yamaha with a detailed description of the problem, the good folks there returned the unit unrepaired and with no note of explanation.
Summary: Amazon took care of us after an absolute nightmare experience with this product. Lesson learned, I should have read all the comments and reviews. Have loved Yamaha since I was a kid but boy did they lay an egg with these. Should have been a mass recall and an apology letter. Anyhoo, as I said, all's well that ends well and did not discourage me at all from shopping on Amazon. Just steer clear of this item regardless of who is selling it.
Summary: Bought this to go with my Yamaha RX-V1073. Annoyingly the styling isn't quite the same as the screen on this is 7-segment style as opposed to the dot matrix display on the AV Amp. Startup times and shutdown times are fairly poor taking at least 5 seconds and I have a slight concern with the HDMI connection on the unit as the signal will sometimes cut out in the middle of being used and I'll be left with a screen of snow but this may just be down to the cheap cable I'm...
Summary: This device is entirely unreliable. 1. When you power it on, it powers off again. Solution - hit power again, make cup of tea. 2. It freeze randomly at "HELLO" or "HOME". Solution - remove plug, reinsert, go to step one above, press power twice. Make cup of tea 3. It can take up to 90 seconds to open the disk tray. Solution - hit eject, make cup of tea 4. It can take 3 minutes to start a blu ray disk. Solution - perform steps 1-3, make another cup of tea. 5.
Summary: a few weeks ago I accidentally bought a blu-ray dvd movie that was a region 2 dvd movie. I really wanted to watch this movie on my tv so that is why I bought this player. I downloaded the upgrade and changed the set up menu and it says it will not play due to region code. I have heard that while the player is turned off, your supposed to use the key pad and press the number 2 for a different region code before turning it on, but that didn't work for me..
Summary: This BD-S693 replaced my older DVD player. This was a good choice. At FIRST, that is. Then things rapidly went to hell in a hand basket. Set up was fairly straightforward. The remote is not overly loaded, so you can understand every button. The USB plug is good for watching your home videos or photos. When we have family events here, I take pictures.
Summary: Like a few others here, I ignored the bad reviews thinking Yamaha simply couldn't make a product this poor. Boy, was I ever wrong. Both the remote and the buttons on the unit are unresponsive, you have to press them multiple times to get to where you want to go. The power button on the remote almost never works (yes I put new batteries in it), and on the unit, when it does respond, it sometimes powers back on without having pushed it a second time.
Summary: Unfortunately this blu-ray player was bad right out of the box. The unit would not power on until after I would pull and reconnect the power cord. And then the unit would freeze during playback and would not respond to remote commands or any buttons pressed on the unit. Yamaha will be exchanging the unit so hopefully these problems will not reoccur. Update- Still having the same problems with the replacement.
