Summary: I have owned this player for a while so my review is better than the, I just played my first DVD reviews. My DVD's freeze in the middle and as you attempt to fix the problem even get past it the problems become worse. You will get to the point that the DVD will just stop trying at that point. It's smart enough to recognize the futility in trying to read that area but it can't read the area. It's not the DVD. It's not the cleaning issues of the DVD or the Player.
Summary: We purchased this player so that we could have Netflix capability on our television. The wireless feature was a nice addition as the less cords the better. Unfortunately we could not get this player to connect to our wireless, not only could we not get this to connect wirelessly, we could not get it to recognize the internet connection when connected via the ethernet cord.
Player has good pic, but have not been able to get wireless function to work
6 June 2011
Summary: The picture on this player is very good, especially for the price. It was also easy to hook up, and has HDMI outlets. I have not been able to get the wireless function to work though. It may have something to do with the router but I am not sure. I have a new wireless Belkin N router, so it should work. My laptop and Roku box both picked up the router right away and work fine. Update: I did finally get the wireless function to work.
Summary: The first DVD player I purchased I sent back because it was defective. The second one arrived quickly and seemed to have the same problems but then I figured out it was was not the player but the cheap HDMI cable that was recommended to purchase with it. After buying a new cable the product works but the WIFI is intermittent at best and has to be reconnected almost everytime I go to use it to access Netflix.
Summary: I bought this player after a failed attempt with another player that couldn't connect with Netflix. I was surprised how fast I got the Sylvania player. It only took a couple of days. Setup was pretty easy and I didn't even use the manual. The only glitch I thought I might have was that during setup I got a message saying that the ethernet cord needed to be connected. I quickly found the on-screen menu for wireless connection.
Summary: After much comparison shopping I settled on this model of blu-ray player. The picture quality of discs was excellent. Netflix connected slowly, the quality was OK, but not great, at least 5 times during every movie was a pause to buffer the stream. I could have lived with that, but after 2 weeks the player stopped reading discs - any discs - DVD or blu-ray. I attempted to download new firmware but it told me it was up to date.
Summary: Here's a riddle. What hisses and takes a really long time? You may think a snake/turtle combo... nope It's this Sylvania Blu-Ray player. Ummm, is the disc door gonna open ... sure just wait for 2 minutes What's that noise I hear , is it coming from the movie...
Summary: This is my first Blu Ray Player and I have to say, I was skeptical at first, with a Sylvania product. It has exceeded my expectations and has never failed. It streams Netflix and Vudu very well. Have yet to try Blockbuster or Roxio. It is a little slow as other reviewers have stated, but what do you expect for a low price? I can live with that. The only big problem for me is the original remote has to be pretty much in front of it to get any response from the unit.
Summary: This player is worth the money. It is a little slow, but performs perfectly. It streams Netflix without a problem. It could have a better interface, but for less than 100.00 it is great. I purchased 2 of these when the "doorbusters" at Walmart did not stream Netflix as advertised. They refused to exchange them, so I returned then and purchased these Sylvanias instead. I am very happy with Sylvania and Amazon, and very disappointed with Walmart.
Summary: I don't know if this product was defective, or if there is a general problem with this Sylvania Blu-Ray player. The picture quality on DVDs was fantasic, however the wi-fi connection was terrible. It was difficult for the wireless connection to intialize, and on the off chance that we could connect to the internet, it was so shortlived that watching a TV show or movie was impossible.
