Summary: This is a good 3D blue Ray Player. I have multiple 3D capable Blue Ray players (2 PS3's and another Sony 3D Player - older model.) I recently got a Samsung 3D TV, unfortunately my expensive Denon Receiver doesn't support the 3d HDMI spec. I didn't want to spend another $1500 on a new one.
Summary: The DVD experience is as good as on any other DVD player. It's hooked into my 5.1 sound system, and its performance and compatibility in that area are fine. Nice that it controls the Sony HDTV, so you only have to hit one remote. On the other hand, the Sony HDTV remote controls it, too, except that the OPTIONS button results in a different menu. I use the wireless networking features extensively, even though I did not intend to prior to purchase.
Summary: I connected it up to a 3D compatible TV with a new 3D capable HDMI cable and it was very easy to setup. I used the WIFI and the only problem I saw was that I have 2 SIDs one for type G and one higher rate type N. It only recognised the lower rate one but was easy to set up. I assumed when it said it had WIFI that it had types G and N since its fairly new. I tried a 3D Blu ray disc and it played beautifully.
I think I agree - with most everyone - 4 - but not 5 stars.

Summary: I admit - I just looked at the 'Stars' - but didn't read the comments. I have never tried it at a Blu-Ray or 3D - but I'm very happy with it. But - with the on-screen and component display - I can NOT easily read the running time. I'm in my early 50's - and even up close - it's too small and blurry. Also - with some DVDs - it has like a constant (what do I call it?) a "Grinding" noise - not pleasant to hear.
Summary: I love the value of this player. Everything is better now, sound and picture. I only gave it 4 stars for the one simple reason. It has issues from time to time. It has frozen up a few times and once would not play anything but stereo out. I went in a adjusted a few setting and it been solid since.
Summary: At first I had trouble getting my music files to stream, but that was because they were ripped to WMA. None of the techs at Sony could figure out was wrong, (even though I told them the files were WMA). But since then my music collection has been ripped to MP3 and it all works beautifully. Also, it doesn't support Airplay. I wish there was a shuffle feature though and a way to incorporate a visualization.
Summary: I am knowledgeable with consumer electronics and was looking for a product that provided current industry standard tech spec capabilities along with software upgrades to last 5+ years on a DVD player under product segmentation of higher than mid tier but not top tier for normal living room enjoyment. This product delivers a range of capabilities along with easy steps for out of the box basic Blue Ray turn on and play.
Summary: This is a great player with two very irritating items of note. Number 1 - the remote has an inner and outer circle in the center which controls different functions. These circles are right next to each other and if you have large fingers or are not very careful you will be continually hitting the wrong button. the control buttons are very sensitive and this is very annoying. You should be able to control a remote without looking at it after awhile.
Summary: I prefer SONY products, so I do have some bias. I also have had lots of experience in video production, so I'm keenly aware of the menu programming and other features that HD promised, but has yet to deliver! We are only seeing a fraction of it's power and bandwidth! This Blu Ray player (BDPS790) is an excellent choice. It is the first I have seen with dual CPU's (processors), which is evident in the speed it operates.
Summary: This is by far one of the best Blu-ray players for the price. There are many methods for playing video, USB, DVD, and blu-ray and the support for video formats is extensive. Although listed as "dual core or dual processor", I own a BDPS580 and the speed from the 790 and the 580 is the same. I can't see any advantage of the dual core/processor. This unit only plays Region A or Region free discs. This can not be software modded to be region free.
