Summary: I've been using this player for about 6 months in a small home theater setup. The video quality is impressive, and it seems to handle any DVD or Blu-Ray we've thrown at it without problems. This week, I started ripping old television shows to the NAS attached to our network, just to get the DVDs out of the way and make it possible to watch them anyplace in our house. I set up the DLNA server on the NAS, found the NAS on the network from the Blu-Ray, and...
Summary: I don't recommend this player to anyone who wants to use it to stream content from Netflix. The problem is that it disconnects from the Internet if streaming is paused for even a couple of minutes. It did this to me repeatedly over a week. Each time I would have to shut off the player and restart for it to connect back up to the Internet. To be clear, I do not mean it disconnects from the wireless network.
Summary: I bought this as it was in 'T3' top 10 Blu Ray players - but I've had a nightmare with it. First one was broken, the replacement lasted 2 months before it stopped working too. When it does work, great! But I'll stick to Samsung from now on... and those T3 Top Ten guides can do one.
Summary: I read most of the reviews on here before buying but now really wish I'd read them all more carefully. I've owned a Sony Brava TV for years and a vaio laptop and both are brilliant in every way, so I felt sure that Sony was the way to go with my first blu ray player. I plugged it all in, quickly sorted the wireless bit and then ooohed and ahhhed at the amazing picture and sound quality-both are incredible.......however.......
Summary: I too am having to send this box back - high pitched whine when playing discs and the DLNA support it terrible. Couldn't play anything - videos, photos, music. Not impressed. Not sure what else to try... people seem to be recommending the LGs.
Summary: I've had two of these and both have had to go back to Amazon. It's a real shame because the streaming worked fantastically. iPlayer, Lovefilm, YouTube all fast, reliable and good picture quality. Easy set-up too. The problem is with the disc operation, when the unit becomes unbearably noisy, making some combination of whining, chuntering, growling and buzzing. DVDs are bad, blu rays are worse - sounds like someone is using a buzz saw in the next room.
Summary: I have now had two machines and each has had a fault. The first didn't play DVDs correctly (stutter/jump every 30sec). The second won't play mp3 files or sound with youtube. At first I wondered if it it was a problems with the HDMI cable or television (or something) but I tried it with other TVs and cables and yes there was a problem. The second one won't play mp3 files but plays DVDs fine. The first one was fine with mp3 files.
Summary: Loved this Player to start with. WiFi setup no problem. Disk play back great, Fast start up. Lots of features. Unfortunlately Iplayer will no longer work despite a fast conection speed. This seems to be a problem a lot of people have with these blue ray players. The problems is still unresolved despite several emails to Sony. The iplayer feature was a major reason for choosing this machine so only two stars.
Summary: Works well enough, picture quality fine, wi-fi works ok. However there is an annoying whine when disc is running. Only there when disc running (not when internet streaming). It is an audible hum, occasionally a high pitched whine, which is quite noticable during quiet passages in a film. I also have a BDP-S370 which is completely silent. My unit has been returned, not sure if I'm going to try another.
