Summary: Do not bother with Bundle!!!! Cables are not high speed. They fail to transmit audio Not enough bandwidth Luckily, I did have a set of HD high speed cabbles after 2 hours of troubleshooting. SHAME ON YOU SELLER Player is OK, but not as good as previous Sony 3d wifi DVD I have. Would not buy again Also wifi speed is terrible.
Real issues with 3D, connectivity and occasionally needs rebooting.
1 May 2014
Summary: My bandwidth is 24.3Mb/S. There are no errors or dropped frames; When I launch a Netflix 3D movie, I get the message "connection speed is too slow for 3D". When I launch the 3D movie again, it may give the same message or it may play. When it does play, it can play right through to the end of the movie; however, sometimes it plays only for 20 seconds, then stops the movie to reload. This can repeat every 20 seconds, continuously.
Pros: Pros: It has a nice HD picture. It has a sleek attractive design. The remote operates at a reasonable distance and is intuitive. Love the big red Netflix button for immediate connection to streaming Netflix without going through the menus. Lots of channel choices on their network. Boots up fast. Starts playing fast.
Cons: Small Cons: There is no user manual, you have to download it. After powering up, it looks like its ready to go. You can see all the streaming channel icons; however, it needs more time to get connected to the network. if you try to connect, you can get a connection error. Be patient and try again. It would have been nice if they put up an icon or some indicator that said it was now connected to the network instead of leaving us to guess.
Summary: Bought from elsewhere but still thought I should write on here as I do 90% of shopping at Amazon. Happy with blu ray player, picture is so much better than ps3 and I'm happy with usb play, and mirror casting. I can now throw out my samsung hdmi connector. Only downside is internet connection. Can connect and use browser as Google comes up, but for some reason apps don't work and neither does update. Found out that it is something incompatible between Sky and Sony.
Summary: The BDP-S5200 is a nice Blu-ray player. I tested a DVD in it soon after plugging it in and the film was fine. After spending a few hours reading the manual and scouring the internet , I managed to connect to the player to my wireless network. I'm quite familiar with setting up devices on the network, but I had to have several goes with the S5200. It then said that a software update was available and that I could install it via the internet or from a USB stick.
Summary: I bought it mainly for the "mirror smartphone" only Sony haven't bothered themselves to make apps to actually USE the thing. It searches and searches and searches and does nothing. iPad exactly the same no app from Sony to use the damn thing THEN HOW CAN WE USE IT ?????? I have a Windows Phone with 8.1 update. It has "Project your phone" on it. Doesn't work on this. Everything else works.
Netflix not working.... Along with any other online service (SOLVED)
Vinod Halai, Amazon
14 April 2014
Summary: I dont have this exact player I have the Sony BDPS4200 but I thought I will leave a review on this page as it suffers from the same bug where you cant get any online services. I kept trying Netflix none stop, called them twice to realise it was nothing to do with them but the player. I tried everything restarting the player, the router so many times. After a long 2 days I finally got it working and now its working perfectly. This is the steps I took to fix this issue.
Sony do not know when BDP S5200 will connect to Amazon Video
9 April 2014
Summary: As others have said, although even on their own website, Amazon say that this Bluray player connects to Amazon Prime Video, it does not. I queried this with Sony. and I got this reply:"we can confirm that your Sony BDP-S5200 is compatible to work with Amazon service; However, the application is not available now due to some technical reasons.
No Amazon Instant! - But Amazon say its compatible!!!
7 April 2014
Summary: Just Bought the BDP-S5200 as Amazon claim its compatible with Amazon Instant and needed a new player,...however when you click on Amazon Instant, it tells you its "Coming Soon"...(how long has this been like this) When you go onto the Sony website they clearly state that Amazon Instant is not available yet and will be coming soon. Why then is Amazon advertising the fact that it is?
Summary: Bought this due to having a Sony home entertainment amp and TV. The Bravia sync works seamlessly with these, so that was good. The wi-fi connection was up and running in minutes and all connected well. However, I wanted Instant Prime...sadly, despite contacting Sony a month ago, the connection to this service is still unavailable. in the short term, I have taken a Netflix free trial.
